First ride: Yamaha Lexi
Providing the sweet spot for those who have outgrown 125 cc automatic scooters
We would be lying if we said that the entry-level scooters are not the most convenient way of navigating metro traffic. But truth be told, riders can easily outgrow their 125cc motorcycles simply because they need a little more power to cover more roads in less time.

The Yamaha Lexi makes 15 horses. So, Yamaha Motor Philippines’ answer to this demand is the newly-revealed Lexi 155.
Positioned between traditional automatic-transmission commuters and larger maxi-scooters, the Japanese marque's latest offering for the local market provides more oomph and features while keeping the practicality that only compact scooters can bring.
So, what can customers enjoy with the Yamaha Lexi? Here’s what we enjoyed during our ride with the two-wheeler’s LX trim.

Distinct Yamaha styling
At first glance, the Yamaha Lexi wears design cues similar to its maxi-scooter stablemate, the Nmax, thanks to its front illumination.
However, its turn signals have been repositioned and separated from the main light cluster to give the motorcycle its own distinct identity.
Enhancing the flowing lines along its sides and rounded edges all around are the small wind deflector just above the front fascia, the blue accents, and the Lexi 155 badging scattered throughout the bodywork.
Its rear showcases a no-nonsense design with its clean taillamp design and a V-shaped passenger grab handle.
Comfort, utility
Aside from its unique look, the Yamaha Lexi 155 LX’s design is focused on comfort and utility.
Unlike maxi-scooters, this motorcycle comes with a flat floorboard (also known as the "gulay board" among Filipino riders). This utilitarian design makes it easier for riders to carry bags, groceries, and other cargo—making it an ideal vehicle for quick grocery runs.
Additional convenience features include:
- Two front storage pockets
- A bag hook for carrying small items
- A charging port
- A fully digital instrument panel with Y-Connect feature
- An underseat compartment that can fit a nutshell-type helmet
- 14-inch wheels
Proven 155cc performance
Powering the Lexi 155 LX is a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 155cc engine matched to a V-belt automatic transmission.
This powertrain delivers:
| Specification | Figure |
|---|---|
| Maximum output (in horsepower) | 15 |
| Peak torque (in Newton-meters | 14.2 |
The numbers look familiar as this mill is basically the same powertrain as the one found in the Nmax. This guarantees a performance advantage over typical 125cc scooters.
During the test, we noticed its brisk acceleration without much strain on the engine compared to its smaller-displacement counterparts. The wider powerband also contributes to easier overtaking within the city, where stop-and-go traffic is the norm.
Once on the road, the Lexi immediately feels familiar to riders accustomed to smaller scooters.
Further, the Yamaha Lexi 155 LX’s compact size makes navigating congested city streets easier when compared to maxi-scooters that can sometimes feel cumbersome in tight spaces.
It manages to glide over bumps and humps without requiring riders to be overly cautious.
On paper, the vehicle tapes in at:
| Specification | Figure |
|---|---|
| Overall dimensions (Length x Width x Height; in millimeters [mm>) | 1,970 x 720 x 1,135 |
| Ground clearance (in mm) | 135 |
| Seat height (in mm) | 770 |
| Wheelbase (in mm) | 1,350 |
| Wet weight (in kilograms) | 116 |
Moreover, the Yamaha Lexi 155 LX offers an upright and natural seating position, complementing its lightweight and un-intimidating riding feel, making it attractive to both first-time buyers and riders transitioning from smaller-displacement machines.
Its braking system, made up of a front disc-type and a rear drum type, ensures sufficient stopping power for everyday city use.
Not for everyone
While offering both practicality and performance, the Yamaha Lexi 155 LX still has its limitations.
For one, riders standing around six feet tall will surely find the scooter physically small. Compared to maxi-scooters, road presence may not be its strongest suit.
Moreover, its rear suspension can bottom out under heavier loads, suggesting that the Yamaha Lexi 155 LX is really intended for average-sized users.
While its seat height makes it accessible to a majority of riders in the small-displacement market, taller riders may want to replace the side mirrors, as they sit a tad low.
Lastly, the floorboard space can snugly fit size 12 or 13 footwear--a not-so-common characteristic, even among maxi-scooters.
Verdict
The Yamaha Lexi 155 LX successfully fills an important gap in the automatic-transmission motorcycle market.
It delivers the stronger performance and improved acceleration that many 125cc owners eventually seek while preserving the practicality, maneuverability, and ease of use that make smaller scooters so appealing in the first place.
Rather than trying to be a full-fledged maxi-scooter, the Yamaha Lexi embraces its role as a versatile urban commuter with enough power to satisfy more experienced riders.
It is lightweight, practical for daily use, and, most importantly, carries an accessible price tag.
With an introductory price of P99,900, the vehicle gives first-time buyers and upgrading riders a sound option without stretching their wallets.
