FEMA announces recall for 2017-2018 Honda X-ADV over ECU issue

MANILA: The FEMA (Federation of European Motorcyclists’ Associations) has filed a recall, urging owners of the maxi scooter, Honda X-ADV (model number ADV750), to check with their dealers. Although this is not an official recall from the Honda itself, FEMA describes it as a serious problem that should be taken care of immediately.

The problem comes with continuous low-speed riding that could overheat the Polymer Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) control module, triggering the vehicle to enter a failsafe mode. Further, the situation prevents the scooter from shifting gear, thus resulting in potential power loss.

The Honda X-ADV was launched in 2017 and has a very strong performance and higher off-road ability. The scooter received a facelift in 2018. It includes a ‘G switch’ for better off-road performance and a two-level HSTC (Honda Selectable Torque Control). However, a 48 PS version is now available for A2 license holders.

Talking about the technical specifications, the scooter is powered by a 745cc, twin-cylinder powertrain that gives plenty of torque in urban settings and can drive up steep off-road tracks without much of a fuss. The engine is mated to a six-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission), which offers seamless gear shift over all kinds of terrains, bet it city or off roads.

Honda X-ADV side profile

FEMA has listed the recall for affected units produced between 26th January 2017 and 4th October 2018. In its official notice, it has also mentioned the names of the countries where the faulty models were found and measures were taken. Croatia, Estonia, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and the Netherlands - are the countries listed as of now. The association has tagged the level of risk as “Serious”, which means it needs to be solved immediately.
