About KTM Philippines
The KTM Sportmotorcycle GmbH is a strong company and an equally strong brand that is constantly expanding its international marketing footprint. KTM is a leading international manufacturer of motorsports vehicles with a special emphasis on sport-oriented motorcycles that underscore the company’s “READY TO RACE” philosophy.
The company has its headquarters in Mattighofen, Austria, and is run by CEO Stefan Pierer, who took control of management in 1992 when it was re-launched with a mission to produce motorcycles of exacting standards of excellence.
At KTM, the 100cc models were green, the 125cc models were red, and the 175cc models had a blue tank. In 1977, the design was standardized, with all models proudly displaying a red frame and white plastic components in the Austrian national colours.
It was in 1992 when KTM was under new management following the insolvency of KTM Motor-Fahrzeugbau AG, meaning that the development department was hard at work devising new concepts for the future.
KTM’s small to mid-capacity motorcycles, namely the 390 and 200 Duke and RC, has been a great hit with sales topping response from the Philippines since 2017. With around 70% of all motorcycles assembled in the Philippines being exported to nearby countries, the move of outsourcing production to the Philippines is part of KTM’s strategy for globalization. This effort appears to be paying off, as in 2019, KTM overtook BMW in global sales as the number one European motorcycle manufacturer in the world.
In the most recent production year of 2019, KTM, which has established in the country a 7,000 units per year production plant, is the leader among the premium brands averaging 300 sales per month. Moreover, the machines that KTM is producing since 2017 in the Laguna plant with 2018 production at 7,000 units, it has created 60% for export to other countries.
Currently, KTM is offering 38 new motorcycle/bike models in the Philippines. The KTM Duke 390, KTM RC 200, KTM 125 SX are the most popular motorcycles from KTM in their respective motorcycle segments. KTM Philippines has a line-up of 3 Scooter, 5 Sports Bikes, 22 Off-Road, 1 Super Sport (KTM 1290 Super Duke GT), 1 Dual Sport, and 6 Adventure Touring motorcycle in its extensive lineup.
Lastly, The official distributor of KTM motorcycles in the Philippines expects its sales to grow by 48 percent this year as it opens new dealerships in more parts of the country. The company aims to have 42 dealerships by year-end from around 27 last year.
