On paper, the Jaecoo EJ6 has a lot going for it. Specifically, it has plenty of elements that make it stand a cut above many other electric vehicle (EV) models currently sold in the Philippine market. 

Appearance-wise, it wears a boxy style that harkens back to age-old sport utility vehicles (SUV), which contrasts the slick and fluidic designs of most all-electric rides one can see in the local scene right now. 

The exterior of the model is likewise quite functional. It has a generous ground clearance of 225 millimeters (mm), a set of large 19-inch alloy wheels, power-folding/adjustable side mirrors, front fog lamps, roof rails, a load-bearing roof, LED lighting fixtures, and noticeably short overhangs. The aforementioned provide an approach angle of 32 degrees, as well as a departure angle of 34 degrees. Jaecoo even says that it has a wading depth capacity of 600 mm. 

Its stylish retro exterior is paired with a single or dual permanent synchronous magnet (PMSM) electric motor setup. On the top spec Premium All-wheel-drive (AWD) trim, the dual PMSM powertrain can deliver up to 275 horsepower (hp) and 385 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque to all four wheels. 

Additionally, the vehicle’s 69.77-kilowatt-hour battery provides it with a range of 421 kilometers (km), according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). It also has a regenerative braking system, multiple drive modes, and a direct-current (DC) fast-charging port. 

The said CSS2 port can deliver up to 80 kilowatts (kW) and can increase the EJ6’s state-of-charge from 30-80 percent in just 30 minutes.

Would-be buyers of the Jaecoo EJ6 would like its abundance of safety equipment. 

For its basic lineup of safety gear, the Jaecoo-made EV SUV has six airbags, stability control, electric brake-force distribution, a 360-degree view camera, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a tire pressure monitoring system, and traction control - among others.

Specifically, it can control the vehicle’s wipers, lights, air-conditioning system, and many other amenities. In fact, Jaecoo has described this screen as the driver’s “command center.”

For connectivity, the said screen comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Together with the available wireless smartphone charging pad, the Jaecoo EV SUV provides a more convenient and neat experience for users who are dependent on smartphones for navigation and entertainment. Nevertheless, the main infotainment display of the EJ6 has a built-in navigation system. 

Feeding sound into the cabin of the Jaecoo EJ6 is a 12-piece Infinity sound system. Likewise present inside the SUV are several USB ports for the front and rear cabins. Some USB ports are Type C with up to 60-watt power capacity. 

The driver, meanwhile, has access to a 9.2-inch digital gauge cluster that is able to display all relevant driving information, including battery levels, range, speed, and the current active drive mode - among others.

Creature comforts galore

As expected from its price tag, the Jaecoo EJ6 has loads of creature comforts. For starters, it has a five-seater layout with leather-wrapped seats. The front ones get power-adjustability, while the ones in the rear can be folded down to form a flat cargo storage surface.

Additionally, the front seats get a massage function to deal with the stress of driving through the usually tight traffic of Philippine cities. It also has ventilated seats, which are great for the kind of climate we get locally. 

On the one hand, dreary commutes can be made more festive via the vehicle’s ambient lighting system and its panoramic sunroof, which stretches all the way towards the back. 

For its driving-oriented bits, the EJ6 has a dial-type shifter, a leather steering wheel, an electronic parking brake, a push-to-start button, and a drive mode selector.

Overall, the Jaecoo EJ6’s interior can be described as a well-equipped space that will ensure comfort for everyone inside the car. Be aware, however, that it is a tad minimalist, and some drivers will have to get used to its lack of physical controls. Otherwise, one can appreciate its large digital displays and its wide array of safety gear.
