Chery Auto Philippines expanded its lineup of crossovers at the Manila International Auto Show 2025, and one of the models it introduced was the Tiggo Cross. 

With the local entry of the aforementioned model, the car brand has gained a strong contender, specifically in the subcompact segment. The Chery Tiggo Cross, after all, starts at a relatively accessible price of P998,000. And considering what it is offering, it proves to be an attractive option for first-time car buyers or people who are looking for a well-equipped daily driver. 

Like any car currently sold in the market, however, it has key strengths and weaknesses buyers should be aware of. So, what are these pros and cons of the Chery Tiggo Cross? Let’s find out here. 

Pros

Loads of features

As an entry in the highly contested subcompact crossover segment, the Chery Tiggo Cross stands strong due to its generous array of creature comforts. 

Positioned on its dashboard are two 10.25-inch digital displays. The one behind the steering wheel is a full digital gauge cluster. The one in the center, meanwhile, is a high-definition infotainment system equipped with Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. For crisp sound quality, the said screen is linked to a six-piece speaker system. 

For its seats, the Tiggo Cross utilizes a combination of leatherette and fabric upholstery. The ones in the rear also feature a 60:40 split-folding functionality for added versatility when loading cargo. 

Keeping everyone inside the car cool is an air-conditioning system with electronic controls. Other notable interior features of the Tiggo Cross include the following: 

• Remote starting feature
• Push-to-start button
• Tilt-adjust steering column
• Cruise control

Additionally, the Chery-made vehicle boasts a lot of safety gear. It comes standard with anti-lock braking, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, traction control, rear parking sensors, hill-descent control, stability control, reverse camera, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and six airbags - among others.

Quiet but elegant design

Unlike many of the heavily stylistic and hyper-modern crossovers on the market right now, the Chery Tiggo Cross features a quiet yet elegant exterior design. To be more exact, its body does not employ dramatic curves and angles, nor does it come with an abundance of faux vents and deep-cut character lines. 

Instead, the Tiggo Cross features the tried-and-true crossover body shape, with generously tall window pillars, black plastic cladding on its wheel arches and sides, as well as a high-riding stance. 

The model, however, does have its charms, namely its wide diamond-accented grille, its pair of sharp-looking LED headlamp clusters, and its eye-catching LED “tiger-stripe” taillight bar. 

Additionally, the model has a decent amount of exterior amenities, such as: 

• 17-inch alloy wheels
• Roof rails
• Power-adjustable side mirrors
• LED daytime running lamps

Strong warranty

Another key strength of the Tiggo Cross, and other models sold under the banner of Chery Auto Philippines, is its attractive warranty packages. 

To be exact, each purchase of the new crossover nameplate comes with the car brand’s Premium Preserv package. The aforementioned includes a five-year or 150,000 kilometer (km), whichever comes first, bumper-to-bumper warranty, a three-year or 60,000 km, whichever comes first free periodic maintenance, and a three-year free roadside assistance service. 

The aforementioned, of course, offers huge value for Chery Tiggo Cross buyers as the warranty packages can be a huge help in reducing the costs of maintaining the vehicle. The result is worry-free ownership - something that any car owner will appreciate in the long run. 

Cons

Not the peppiest in segment

Under the hood of the Chery Tiggo Cross is a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). At maximum, the said engine can generate up to 112 horsepower (hp) and 141 Newton-meters of torque. 

Like most of its rivals in the market, the Chery-made crossover is front-wheel-drive. It also has nine simulated gears for its “Tiptronic” semi-automatic mode, a MacPherson strut front and torsion beam rear suspension system, and disc brakes for all four wheels. 

Based on its on-paper output figures, the Chery Tiggo Cross isn’t the most powerful subcompact crossover in the market.  Peppier options include the GAC GS3 Emzoom, which can produce up to 174 hp and 270 Nm of torque, as well as the Geely Coolray, which can generate 177 hp and 255 Nm of torque. 

The Chery nameplate, however, is comparable to the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and MG ZS in terms of power.

Final thoughts

As a subcompact crossover, the Chery Tiggo Cross offers good value for its asking price. It has a decent number of creature comforts, a comprehensive safety kit, and an elegant-looking exterior design.

It may not be the quickest crossover in the market, but it will provide a practical and comfortable ride for people looking for a daily-driven personal transport or a small family car. 

As a reminder, people who like what they see in the Chery Tiggo Cross should take it out for a test drive first. Spec-checking cars on the internet is a good start, but getting some seat time in the car you’re looking to buy is always a good rule of thumb.
