Chery Tiggo Cross

Inside, the Chery Tiggo Cross comes with a minimalist cabin that offers a nice blend of high-tech niceties and soft-touch materials. The first row is a nice place to be in, while the second row has more than enough room for two individuals. However, the middle seat at the back is more ideal for children or small passengers in general. To compensate for its limited rear space, you get a decent room for your groceries and light baggage at the back. Its seats are also plush and supportive for its price point.

Upfront, you are greeted by a dual 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display that comes with wireless Apple CarPlay (wired version for base trim) and Android Auto, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. Meanwhile, drivers have access to a 10.25-inch TFT instrument display, a leather-wrapped multicontrol steering wheel, and a modern gear lever. 

For more convenience and functionality, this SUV also comes with USB charging ports and a wireless charger (for the higher trim only). The HEV variant also gets a sunroof for a more aesthetically pleasing cabin feel.

For starters, the Chery Tiggo Cross model line measures 4,320 mm in length, 1,831 mm in width, and 1,652 mm in height. This SUV has a wheelbase of 2,610 mm and a ground clearance of 190 mm.

From the outside, the Chery Tiggo Cross looks and feels more premium than its actual price point. It has a confident-looking front end that is illuminated by angular LED headlights with vertical LED DRLs. This model line features Chery’s signature diamond accent front grille, which adds an elegant touch to its overall appearance on the road. And, to make its facade look a bit sportier, it gets a rugged-looking black bumper.

Similar to its front end, its silhouette also looks elegant and sporty at the same time. The base trim runs on the standard 17-inch alloy metal wheels, while the higher trim flaunts the two-tone version for a more premium side profile. 

Meanwhile, at the back, it features a distinct-looking back end that has a subtle European vibe. Its through-type LED taillights with a tiger stripe-like pattern looks really appealing at night. On top, this SUV comes with ornamental roof rails for added storage.

In terms of suspension, the Chery Tiggo Cross model line utilizes a combination of a MacPherson independent-type at the front, while a Torsion Beam at the rear. Thanks to this setup, you will be able to enjoy this SUV’s light and nimble maneuvering inside the city. It can also absorb bumps and uneven concrete pavements quite well. However, its steering has a tendency to be too light (or lack feedback) when hitting turns or corners. But, to be fair, this family-friendly car is designed to be driven sensibly. 

The Chery Tiggo Cross offers two powertrain and transmission options. First, the base trim is powered by a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, DOHC engine that produces a maximum power output of 114 PS and a maximum torque of 141 Nm. This trim comes mated to a 9-speed continuously variable transmission system with Tiptronic Mode. 

On the other hand, the higher trim runs on Chery’s Super Hybrid technology, which is a combination of a 1.5-litre in-line 4, DOHC, Atkinson Cycle engine and a single permanent magnet synchronous motor. Combined, the HEV trim delivers 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque. This variant comes mated to a dedicated hybrid transmission system and is equipped with two drive modes: Eco and Sport. 

Both variants utilize a front-wheel drivetrain. Regardless of the powertrain, the Chery Tiggo Cross model line delivers great efficiency, regardless if you are passing through traffic on a daily basis or driving at high speeds on the highway. However, if you desire a smoother and more punchy driving experience, then the HEV variant has the upper hand among the two.

In terms of safety, the higher-spec HEV trim is equipped with 14 advanced driver assistance systems. Both variants get cruise control, three rear parking sensors, six SRS airbags, ISOFIX, tire pressure monitoring system, a vehicle anti-theft with immobilizer, as well as a 540-degree panoramic view camera with dynamic guidelines for the higher trim (base trim only gets a standard reverse camera). 

Additionally, the Chery Tiggo Cross model line utilizes ventilated discs for front braking, while solid discs for the rear. Its braking setup is equipped with an anti-lock braking system, a brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, traction control system, electronic stability program, and hill descent control.

In my opinion, the Chery Tiggo Cross is arguably among the locally-available subcompact SUVs that deliver the highest value for money. For its price point, it is very feature-packed, city-friendly, and efficient for daily use.
