Toyota and Lexus has loads of HEV offerings
Zigwheels Philippines’ previous EV Love listed hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) from several brands recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE). The aforementioned includes BMW, MG, GAC, Mazda, Dongfeng, Nissan, BAIC, and Omoda.

Toyota
One of the companies with over five HEV models recognized by the DOE is Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP). Specifically, the government agency currently lists the Corolla Cross, Yaris Cross S, Corolla Altis GR-S, RAV4, Camry, Innova Zenix Q, the upcoming RAV4, Alphard, the upcoming Land Cruiser LC300 ZX, and Sequioia Capstone.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaFor the current Toyota HEV models we have, most get an inline-four gasoline engine, an electronic motor, a battery, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Their internal combustion engine (ICE) displacements range from 1.5-3.5 liters, with the largest from the yet-to-be-launched Land Cruiser LC300 ZX.

The Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 ZX HEV and the Toyota Sequioa Capstone are not yet available locally. However, the DOE website says that the electrified LC300 can produce up to 409 hp from its V6 engine and an additional 53 hp from its electric motor. Meanwhile, the Sequia Capstone can churn out 388 hp from its ICE and 48 hp from its electric motor.

Lexus
TMP’s luxury arm, Lexus, also has a wide array of DOE-recognized HEV models in the local market. These range from sedans to sport utility vehicles (SUV), and include the following nameplates:

- Lexus UX300h
- Lexus NX350h
- Lexus LM350h
- Lexus LS500h
- Lexus LX700h
- Lexus RX360h

Powertrain-wise, these nameplates mostly use a 2.5-liter inline-four engine, except for the UX300h, which comes with a smaller 2.0-liter mill. The model with the smallest displacement is the LBX, which uses a 1.5-liter engine.

For the updated Lexus IS300h, its Japanese Domestic Market version features a 2.5-liter inline-four engine that delivers 219 hp and 221 Nm of torque.
Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo Philippines’ sole DOE-certified HEV model is the Junior compact SUV. For its mechanicals, it uses a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout equipped with a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine and a 48-volt hybrid system that’s capable of producing 136 hp and 230 Nm of torque.
Lamborghini
According to DOE, Lamborghini’s recognized HEV nameplate is the Temerario Hybrid. It is yet to see a local introduction, but its global version boasts a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with three electric motors. At its peak, the said high-performance car can produce up to 907 hp and 730 Nm.
Porsche
Porsche has two models recognized by the DOE as HEVs. These are the 911 Carrera GTS and the Cayenne.
Photo by Ruben Manahan IVThe 911 Carrera GTS, available in cabriolet or coupe form, is powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six engine that produces up to 541 hp and 610 Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the Cayenne E-Hybrid utilizes a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 mated to an electric motor. At maximum, the crossover can deliver 463 hp and 650 Nm of torque.

There you have it: all the HEV models certified by the DOE. Be aware, however, that the DOE regularly updates its list of new energy vehicles, so it may look different with more (or fewer) vehicle entries in the near future.
