The new mu-X Luxe - How unique is the new special edition?

A Filipino needs no introduction to Isuzu mu-X, this SUV has been running up and down the Philippines traffic and ill-condition road for long. The two new addition to the line-up focus to attract the young buyers and as explained by IPC President Hajime Koso, they are introduced to keep the lineup fresh, especially for the pickup and SUV segment. "To keep up with the competition, we are offering two new variants which are designed to exude the more aggressive and luxurious side of the D-MAX and mu-X models,"

While the special edition of D-MAX is designed to appeal the younger segment, the mu-X special edition, named mu-X ‘Luxe’ is said to be the ‘most well-appointed’ variant to date. We’ll discuss both the variants separately, in this article, here will inform you how unique is the new edition and is it a better option over the ongoing model?

 mu-X ‘Luxe’ -What to expect?

Well, the addition to model name reads ‘Luxe’, which means of high-quality, one with a luxurious feel. So, hopefully, the new mu-X ‘Luxe’ like its name is an attempt by Isuzu to make a shift from standard SUV to the one with a more premium feel. Therefore, some change in the design, addition in tech, is what we think is to follow. Let’s now see segment wise and check what more are we getting over the non-Luxe variants.

Exterior

When the ongoing and new special edition model are seen in a glimpse, no design difference is spot-on. However, a closer look reveals styling additions like an added layer of protection, a new light grey fender keeping all the debris and rock at bay from the vehicle. Power and Performance

While the ongoing mu-X trims are available in both 4X4 and 4X2 driving configuration, the talked about luxury edition comes only with a 4X2 drivetrain. Thus, making it not a suitable choice for buyers looking for all-wheel drive SUV options.
Moving to the engine, the new premium edition is benefited by a 4JJ1-TCX 3.0L Blue Power Diesel mill. This Euro 4 compliant engine is capable of producing 117 PS of maximum power along with 380 Nm of peak torque.

Price
Contradictory to what we expected, the new ‘Luxe’ trim is not the most expensive in the mu-X lineup. Instead, it stands at the third position with a price tag of Php 1,895,000. The most costly trim is the 3.0 LS-A 4x4 AT Blue Power with the price sticker reading Php 2,145,000.

After analyzing the specifications, it is quite clear that the new ‘Luxe’ variant is an upgraded version of the ongoing 3.0 LS-A 4X2 AT Blue Power trim (available at Php 1,845,000).
