2015 LA Auto Show: Refreshed Mercedes Benz SL Revealed

MANILA: The German auto icon, Mercedes- Benz has just chosen the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show for showcasing the refreshed SL. The automaker has described it as the “new appearance for an automotive icon” where the exteriors and luxuries are upgraded.

Said to be inspired by AMG GT, the refreshed SL convertible has new front fascia whose highlights are large diamond grille and narrower and archer headlights with LED lighting. The large air intakes with resculpted hood and new bumper give it an overall snazzy look. With the roof down of this convertible, the SL shows off its short and steeply angled A-Pillars and frameless side windows. The rear has beautified too with large sweptback taillights and chrome-plated exhaust pipes.

Inside, a two-tone interior theme with chrome trim is followed where there is a new instrument cluster, round aircon vents, a three-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, and an analogue clock. The leather seats and state-of-the-art tech features are common in Mercedes cars. Moreover, the roof easily opens and shuts down at a speed of 40 km/h.

The variants of Mercedes-Benz SL, the entry-level SL 450 is equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 engine delivering 367 PS and 500 Nm of torque while the SL 550 is equipped with a 4.7-litre V8 engine generating 455 PS and 699 Nm of torque. The SL 63 AMG is powered by a 5.5-litre V8 mill cranking out 585 PS and 900 Nm of torque. Lastly, the SL 65 AMG gets a 6.0-litre V12 engine which is capable of producing 630 PS and 1000 Nm of torque. All the said engines are mated to a nine-speed “9G-Tronic” automatic transmission. Thus, the car can be said as a furious topless beauty on wheels which will surely lure everyone and anyone.
