2020 Nissan Almera to make global debut in the US

MANILA: Nissan is all set to reveal its all-new Almera at the 2019 Rock the Ocean's Tortuga Music Festival, which is scheduled to take place on April 12 at the beach of Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the US. However, the car gets a new name, Versa for the US market.

In some other markets including the Philippines, the Almera is also available. It comes with a starting price tag of Php 657,000. The car is the smallest sedan in Nissan Philippines line-up and features the company's oldest design language.

Nissan has successfully managed to keep 2020 Almera or Versa’s specs sheet a secret. It is expected to be disclosed at its global premiere in the US.

However, there have been some speculations made about 2020 Nissan Almera’s platform. Almera is rumoured to share the underpinnings with Nissan Micra, which shares the chassis with Renault Clio. So, it is expected to be the first vehicle from the new Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance for small cars.

On the other hand, Mr Trevor Mann, former Mitsubishi Motors Chief Operating Officer confirmed previously that the next-gen Mirage G4 would be closely related to the Renault Clio and Nissan Micra. It means some of the features of the Nissan Almera or Versa may be similar to that of the next-generation Mitsubishi Mirage G4.

As mentioned before, Nisan has recently launched an updated version of Almera in the Philippines. It comes with some new color options like Sapphire Blue Metallic, Lunar Metallic Gray, and Iridium Metallic Brown, which make the total count to seven.

The Philippines-spec Almera sedan comes with two engine options. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine can make a maximum power of 79 PS and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. On the other hand, the top-spec model is equipped with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, which pushes out a maximum power of 99 PS. It has two transmission options - five-speed manual and four-speed automatic.
