MANILA: As of January to September 2025, the Philippines has 41,857 registered electric vehicles (EV). The figure represents a significant jump from the 24,286 EV units registered by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in 2024.

According to the DOE executive, the rise in registered EV units is a clear sign of growing interest among car buyers. This, meanwhile, was attributed to continuous EV-related educational activities (including test drives) conducted by various brands, such as VinFast, as well as activities spearheaded by the DOE.
Ulgrado further noted that “range anxiety” is a thing of the past and is now being addressed in a rapid manner by locally-present car brands that carry EV models, their partners, and EV charging providers such as VinGroup’s very own V-Green Global Charging Station Development Company.

Furthermore, the local transport sector now boasts 34 EV routes, operated by 396 electric public utility vehicles (E-PUV).
Ulgado also mentioned the number of new energy vehicle models recognized by the DOE as of January 31, 2026. The aforementioned includes 120 battery electric vehicles (BEV), 84 hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), and 22 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) nameplates.
Photo by Cesar Guiderone MiguelWith the uptick in EV ownership and public transport, Ulgardo is hopeful that the country can meet the long-term goals of DOE’s Comprehensive Roadmap for the EV Industry. This, the agency shared, will hopefully come to reality sometime in 2035.
Specifics of the DOE CREVI for 2035-2040 include a target of around 800,000 registered EVs operating in the country.

VinFast Limo Green
