40k EVs registered in PH during Jan.-Sept. 2025 timeline

MANILA: As of January to September 2025, the Philippines has 41,857 registered electric vehicles (EV). The figure represents a significant jump from the 24,286 EV units registered by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in 2024. 

The aforementioned figures were presented by Department of Energy Chief of the Electric Vehicle Industry Management Division Andresito Ulgado at the 2026 Charging Ahead symposium organized by VinFast Philippines.

According to the DOE executive, the rise in registered EV units is a clear sign of growing interest among car buyers. This, meanwhile, was attributed to continuous EV-related educational activities (including test drives) conducted by various brands, such as VinFast, as well as activities spearheaded by the DOE. 

Ulgrado further noted that “range anxiety” is a thing of the past and is now being addressed in a rapid manner by locally-present car brands that carry EV models, their partners, and EV charging providers such as VinGroup’s very own V-Green Global Charging Station Development Company. 

As reported previously by Zigwheels Philippines, V-Green is now operating in the local market by partnering up with property owners to install EV stations nationwide. 

But on a larger scale, Ulgrado shared that the nation now has 1,351 charging points available nationwide. The DOE executive likewise presented the average charging fees for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) nationwide:

Furthermore, the local transport sector now boasts 34 EV routes, operated by 396 electric public utility vehicles (E-PUV). 

Ulgado also mentioned the number of new energy vehicle models recognized by the DOE as of January 31, 2026. The aforementioned includes 120 battery electric vehicles (BEV), 84 hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), and 22 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) nameplates.

With the uptick in EV ownership and public transport, Ulgardo is hopeful that the country can meet the long-term goals of DOE’s Comprehensive Roadmap for the EV Industry. This, the agency shared, will hopefully come to reality sometime in 2035. 

Specifics of the DOE CREVI for 2035-2040 include a target of around 800,000 registered EVs operating in the country.

VinFast Limo Green

As mentioned above, the VinFast Limo Green was also previewed at the event. 

The model, which is set to launch in March 2026, by the way, will cost P1.099 million when acquired with the VinFast Battery Subscription. Without a subscription, the MPV will retain at P1.399 million. 

At maximum, the Limo Green’s permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) can generate up to 201 horsepower and 280 Newton-meters of torque. It also has a range of 450 kilometers, according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). 

For charging, the VinFast Limo Green for the local market comes with a CCS2 port that can increase its state of charge from 10-70 percent in just 30 minutes. The vehicle likewise comes with a regenerative braking system. 

Notable interior amenities of the VinFast Limo Green include a seven-seater layout, up to 1,245 liters of cargo (second and third row folded), and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with four speakers, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB connectivity.
