BMW M CEO Denies the Joint Super car with McLaren
MANILA: The talk of auto industry that BMW and McLaren will jointly develop a mid-engined V8 supercar is finally denied by BMW M boss, Frank van Meel who said that they have not received any information about it from the top of the company or from McLaren. This means the hope of seeing BMW-McLaren collaboration has now all gone up in smoke. Meel also stated that this rumored concept was all born out of pure fantasy.
The model was rumored to use carbon-fiber monocoque chassis of next-gen McLaren 650S (codenamed P16) and 4.0-litre V8 power plant with two exhaust-driven and two electric turbochargers delivering 760 PS. But Meel's statement reads, “I haven’t had a phone call, Harald Krüger hasn’t had a phone call and Klaus Fröhlich (BMW Research and Development Director) hasn’t had a phone call. We haven't made one either, and we don't have plans to,” denies all the rumored talks.
He also added that they admire McLaren and has obviously worked with them in past but there is nothing on the agenda right now. McLaren and BMW have worked initially where F1's engine, V12 was provided by BMW. Well, as of now we should not wait for McLaren BMW supercar but for the BMW's i8 plug-in hybrid sports car which will set the roads on fire with all big investments and latest technology.
