BMW recalls select X3 units worldwide over multiple issues, more than 105K units affected

MANILA: BMW is recalling select X3 units over numerous issues — with more than 105,000 units affected around the world.

According to Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt [KBA>), the affected examples are those produced between June 20, 2023-November 27, 2025.

Among the issues that are hounding the aforementioned nameplate are:

• Incorrect assembly of the cell module
• Faulty gas generator in the driver's airbag
• Impairment of the seatbelt’s protective effect
• Damaged sensor pins during installation
• Malfunction of the steering gear sensor

Per KBA, the incorrectly assembled module can lead to failure of the high-voltage system — with possibility of fire not being ruled out. With this, the affected cell modules will be replaced.

Meanwhile, a fault in the gas generator of the driver's airbag could result in uncontrolled deployment and release of metal fragments that can injure the occupants. The vehicle’s airbag will be examined and might be replaced if necessary.  

Further, the impaired sensor pins during installation could lead to the failure of the car sensitivity sensors on the outer seats of the second row — posing a risk of inadequate protection. To arrest the issue, the outer seat belts in the second row will be inspected and replaced if needed.

Lastly, the issue on the steering gear sensor could result in unintended movement on the steering wheel.  

At the time of posting no incidents that have to do with property or personal damages have been recorded.
