BMW M to be 'Central Feature' at 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed

MANILA: The Central Feature at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard will be a sculpture honoring BMW M. The sculpture will pay tribute to the division's five decades and feature some of its most iconic models.

Since the very first Central Feature in 1997, the Goodwood Festival of Speed has been associated with the bold and creative sculptures that each year highlight the astounding achievements of a certain company or milestone.

BMW Motorsport was founded in 1972 with only 35 personnel. However, it quickly became one of the biggest and most successful racing departments. BMW M GmbH is now synonymous with thrilling driving on the road and on the racetrack. BMW M will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year with a series of exciting releases and celebrations set throughout the year, including the momentous Central Feature at the Festival of Speed.

“As BMW M, we feel honored to play a very special role at this year's Festival of Speed. For our 50th anniversary, we couldn't imagine a better place to celebrate our products with fans of the brand. I am particularly looking forward to unveiling a certain vehicle to the world’s public for the first time — a vehicle we have been waiting a long time for,” BMW M Chief Executive Officer Frank van Meel stated.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed will see many of BMW M's most iconic vehicles taking the Hill across the weekend, with many of the company's most renowned drivers behind the wheel, as well as other special moments. BMW will be present in two primary locations: BMW M at Trackside and within the historic Stable Yard, both of which will allow guests to get up close and personal with the latest models.

“We are delighted to be celebrating 50 years of BMW’s hugely successful Motorsport division at this year’s Festival of Speed, and it is especially fitting as we prepare to honor ‘The Innovators - Masterminds of Motorsport’. BMW M’s success can of course be attributed to half a century of innovation and we look forward to honoring the marque’s past, present and future achievements at Goodwood in June,” the Duke of Richmond said in a statement.

BMW was previously honored with the Central Feature in 2016, when the company celebrated its centenary with a spectacular vehicle show at the Festival of Speed. The Central Feature was launched in a stunning firework display followed by a parade of BMW's best motors sweeping up the Hill, while the BMW M Avenue featured 12 iconic current and historic cars.
