Ford PH to enter EV arena by 2025

MANILA: Ford Philippines is set to enter the local electric vehicle (EV) arena by next year.

The announcement was made by the company’s managing director Pedro Simoes as he announced the Blue Oval marque’s major plans locally.

Though he did not give any specific details, the firm’s newly-minted top executive shared that the company will start its electrification journey by 2025 with new vehicles that will boost its product portfolio and cater to the growing demand for EV in the country — adding that the firm will launch numerous offerings under the said category.

Globally, Ford has several models under the electric and hybrid segment — some considered as familiar nameplates in the country. They are the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, E-Transit, Maverick, F-150 Hybrid, Escape in (hybrid and plug-in hybrid options) as well as the Ranger PHEV.

Below are some of the brand’s possible initial EV products for the Philippine market.

Ranger PHEV

A possible long-shot for 2025, but Zigwheels Philippines looks at the Ranger PHEV as one of initial members of Ford Philippines’ EV roster given the nameplate’s strong following in the country. 

Propelled by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine and 10‑speed automatic gearbox with a 75-kilowatt electric motor, a modular hybrid transmission, and an 11.8 kilowatt-hour battery. It also comes with an e-4WD system, a dual-range transfer box and rear differential lock. The traction battery is packaged between specially-engineered frame rails.

Mustang Mach-E

Meanwhile, the Mustang Mach-E could also be a part of the automotive distributor’s initial EV products given the industry’s strong preference on crossovers and sport utility vehicles as well as nameplate’s strong recollection.

Retailed in the rear-wheel- and all-wheel-drive setup abroad, the full-electric five-seater sport utility vehicle comes with a power of motors with an extended-range 91-kWh battery.

 Other programs

In line with the addition of new products, Simoes expressed its commitment to better serve its clients as its pool of dealer technicians will undergo training under its new Learning Center.

Per Simoes, the aforementioned establishment will provide space for the conduct of training programs related to EV as well as non-technical training to dealer sales personnel, effectively upskilling them to deliver better customer experience.

Lastly, Ford Philippines will also update its dealership design that will make its showroom more hospitable and customer-centric.

Per Ford, the showroom refresh serves as a response to customers looking to experience an engaging retail environment “that allows for personalized interactions, a place that builds a sense of trust and belonging.”
