Ford PH training program tackles safe driving in the new normal

MANILA: Ford Philippines has launched the 13^th edition its the Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) program today, September 16. This is part of the company’s celebration of the Global Caring Month this September.

With the theme “Safe Driving in the New Normal,” the 13^th DSFL tackles pandemic car care and maintenance tips, car sanitation and disinfection, and driving techniques during the rainy weather. It will include the existing DSFL training module that covers basic vehicle dynamics and handling, driving in various conditions, anti-distracted driving, and fuel-efficient driving.

The sessions will be conducted virtually to ensure a safe learning environment. Last year’s DSFL was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, Ford Philippines Assistant Vice President for Communications EJ Francisco said, “We are excited to bring the DSFL back this year as part of our Global Caring Month, bringing to life our long-standing advocacy on road safety on the digital platform. This year, we are making the DSFL a more relevant training program for our participants by sharing the necessary driving habits and skills as they navigate the roads in the ‘new normal.’”

Tuason Racing School will facilitate the virtual program for Ford Philippines. It aims to conduct an interactive training session with more instructional videos, games, and contests. Radio personality Sam YG and beauty queen Michelle Dee were appointed as this year’s Ford road safety ambassadors who will help promote the program online.

Since its launch in the Philippines, the DSFL has successfully trained over 26,000 drivers. The program has made itself relevant with the varying road conditions, policies, and government regulations over the years. In its previous edition in 2019, DSFL was able to train 3,300 public and private drivers.

The training program has been consistently recognized by various award-giving bodies in the country. In 2020, it received a Gold award under the Road Safety category in the 4^th Driven to Serve Awards by the Society of Philippine Motoring Journalists (SPMJ).

DSFL was first launched in the United States in 2003 by Ford Motor Company Fund, the US Governors Highway Safety Association, and a panel of safety experts, with a goal to raise awareness on the necessary skills for safe driving beyond what is learned in standard driver education programs.
