Geely Coolray caps off 2020 as top-selling 5-seater subcompact SUV

MANILA: Based on the recent reports of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, the Geely Coolray was the top-selling five-seat subcompact crossover in the country in December 2020.

The Coolray sold 520 units last month, which was accounted for 24% of its total sales in 2020. The Coolray also ranked first among five-seater subcompact crossovers in the country in the months of June, July, and October last year.

In a statement, Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) President Mikihisa Takayama said, “We have surprisingly rebounded to deliver our sales targets in most of the months last year. The Coolray became a top-seller among the five-seater subcompact crossovers for four months in 2020. And after selling a total of 2,158 units last year, we landed on CAMPI and AVID’s top 10 spot for passenger vehicles in terms of sales.”

Aside from its booming sales performance, Geely Philippines also took pride in the awards and recognitions that the brand received in 2020. The Geely Coolray was hailed as the Best Subcompact Crossover by C! Magazine in its 16^th Annual C! Awards, while the Geely Azkarra was recognized as the Best Subcompact Crossover. Geely also took home the Best Value for Money Subcompact Crossover award in the 2020 Auto Focus People’s and Media’s Choice Awards. Motoring news sites Autoindustriya.com and Car Guide also included Geely vehicles in their top picks for 2020.

This year, Geely is hoping to maintain its progressive sales performance with new dealerships that are set to be opened. According to SGAP Executive Vice President Youske Nishi, “As we adapt to the drastic changes this pandemic has brought us, Geely Philippines is facing 2021 more aggressively in promoting its core models like the Coolray and Okavango. We are seeing that a majority of our sales for this year will be coming from these models. In terms of network expansion, we are eyeing to open more than 20 more dealerships this year—eight outlets in the first half of the year and the rest by the second half.”
