Here comes the 2018 Hyundai Accent and it’s all spiced up
MANILA: Among some of the prominent launches at the ongoing Canadian International Auto Show, the one which got our attention is the much-awaited 2018 Accent. Yes, with a blend of sportiness and sophistication, the updated 2018 Hyundai Accent has been finally revealed. Clearly, the B-segment sedan has been inspired from its elder sibling, the new Hyundai Elantra.
To begin with, the cascaded grille at the front is tweaked a bit. This is further accompanied with sleek headlights that are now integrated with projector headlights and new daytime running lights (DRLs). The sloping roofline has been kept intact and the addition of 17-inch alloy wheels further improve the sporty quotient of the sedan. At the rear, the new taillights resemble the one seen on Elantra. Even the trunk design is restyled to make it compatible with the overall design theme.
The changes are not only restricted to just styling and has been done in the composition of the body structure as well. The new Accent is composed of 54.5% Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS), which was 41.5% in the previous model. The improved usage of AHSS has resulted in better noise cancellation and rigidity. In addition to this, the overall weight has been also reduced to a significant extent that now results in better performance as well as fuel efficiency.
In the cabin, the changes include refreshed instrument panel, multi-function steering wheel, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You will also found automatic climate control and slightly refreshed color theme.
The Canadian spec model is equipped with a 1.6-Litre Gamma GDI inline-four cylinder engine that is capable of delivering 132 PS maximum power along with peak torque of 161 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Considering the safety features of the 2018 Hyundai Accent, it is equipped with electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, traction control, anti-lock brakes and six airbags.
The 2018 Hyundai Accent will be available in global markets by the third quarter of this year. For the Philippines, we don’t have any official information on its launch but, we hope Hyundai Philippines introduce the sedan by this year only.
