Honda Civic Type R sets a new lap record at Hungaroring

MANILA: Honda has been very busy planning a series of lap record attempts across Europe in 2018. The amazing Honda Civic Type R is on a roll to break old lap records in front-wheel drive segment. Honda has been setting a new record every time the driver set foot in those European circuits with the Civic Type R. Circuits like the one in Silverstone or Spa-Francorchamps. In fact, the current record holder for the Nurburgring circuit is the amazing FK8 too. With the former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button setting a new lap record at the Hungaroring circuit, Honda has ultimately completed its 2018 Type R challenge.

By setting a record lap time of 2:10.19 around the Hungaroring, the Honda Civic Type R recently claimed its fifth and final European lap record of the Type R Challenge. Fun fact, the Hungaroring circuit, is also the home grounds for the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix. This 4.38 km long track also gave Jenson Button, his first Formula 1 victory back in 2006. And fortunately enough, he happened to race for the Honda Team during his time in F1.

The very elated Jenson Button said, “The first thing I noticed when I left the pit lane was how neutral the car was. I come from a background that is not front-wheel drive focused, so it was very different for me but because the Type R is so well balanced it was instantly really enjoyable and more natural.”

The team at Honda has released a video of the full lap to prove its validity. With an ex F1 world champion behind the wheel, the video also gives us a glimpse of how the Civic Type R handles around the race track.

“The thing that surprised me most is how late you can brake with this car. The manual gearbox works really well, too. Most cars these days don’t come with manual boxes, so it’s nice to have that manual feel. You always feel a lot more connected to the car,” Button added.
