Honda PH, Honda Foundation pens pact to promote road safety

MANILA: Honda Philippines Incorporated (HPI), through its charitable arm, Honda Foundation Incorporated (HFI), has established a memorandum of agreement together with A Child’s Trust is Ours to Nurture Incorporated (ACTION) in order to promote road safety and best driving practices. 

Specifically, the Japanese marque’s local arm will be working together with ACTION’s “Tamang Ride Movement” to promote the aforementioned advocacies among children, families, as well as beginner motorcycle riders and drivers. 

Under the newly established partnership, HPI and HFI have donated P1 million to Tamang Ride Philippines. The said funds will be utilized to initiate a social media campaign, which will focus on educational materials to create a culture of safety among road users. 

The brand also turned over an additional P980,000 to the non-profit organization to support its project to help produce a road safety training module. Per ACTION founder and President Hajime Yokota, the said module will be used by the group’s 600 trainers, who are set to disseminate potentially life-saving road safety knowledge to communities nationwide. 

For the unfamiliar, ACTION is a non-profit organization with a focus on children’s rights. Apart from its Tamang Ride Philippines road safety advocacy, it is also fighting against human trafficking, online sexual abuse, as well as child abuse and exploitation. The group is also concerned with providing less privileged children with crucial life skills. 

ACTION’s Tamang Ride Movement, as mentioned above, is a road safety education initiative that aims to improve road safety and eventually reduce road fatalities nationwide. In doing the aforementioned, the group believes that it is able to provide a child-friendly environment. 

Per Yokota, ACTION is currently working to establish partnerships with private entities before focusing on policy advocacy. Last December 2024, the group established a partnership with Yamaha Motor Philippines, which is also in support of its Tamagan Ride Movement. 

HPI, on the other hand, has been a steadfast promoter of safe driving practices over the years.

The brand has established partnerships with the Manila Metropolitan Development Authority, the Land Transportation Office, and the Department of Transportation for road safety. It has also continued to organize the Honda Road Safety Summit, which is a part of the marque’s global effort to minimize traffic-related fatalities.
