KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What other organization has ranked the Hyundai Ioniq 9 its highest rating?

    It is the Euro NCAP.
  • What rating did it receive?

It was awarded a five-star rating.
  • According to the South Korean manufacturer, its flagship three-row electric sport utility vehicle’s (SUV) most recent achievement reinforces leadership in delivering dependable sustainable mobility at the top end of the segment.

“From achieving top safety ratings in the United States and Europe to earning honors from leading automotive authorities, Ioniq 9 showcases Hyundai Motor’s rigorous approach to structural safety, advanced driver assistance systems, premium quality and real-world usability,” the company wrote in a press release.

    Top Safety Pick+-rated

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 was awarded the Top Safety Pick+ rating, which is considered the highest safety designation under the organization’s latest and more stringent evaluation criteria.

Per Hyundai Motor Company, its SUV earned “Good” ratings across all major crashworthiness and crash avoidance categories. As such, it reflects the Ioniq 9’s strong occupant protection, effective pedestrian detection and high-performing lighting systems.

Based on IIHS’ testing, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 maintains a stable occupant survival space in frontal and side impacts, with airbags and restraint systems working together to minimize injury risk for both for those sitting at front and rear.

Further, the SUV’s front crash prevention system demonstrated the ability to avoid or significantly mitigate collisions with vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, both during the daytime and at nighttime.

    Euro NCAP 5-star rating

Bolstering the Hyundai Ioniq 9’s position as a safe automobile for the modern car buyer is the five-star rating it received from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP).

Like the aforementioned Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS, a five-star rating from Euro NCAP also means that the nameplate has achieved the highest possible ranking the new car assessment organization can give.

Hyundai Motor Company noted that Euro NCAP’s testing showed how the vehicle delivered particularly strong results in child occupant protection, where it achieved an 87 percent score.

In both frontal offset and side barrier tests, all critical body areas of six- and ten-year-old child dummies were well protected, earning maximum points and contributing significantly to the vehicle’s overall five-star rating.
