JAC displays T9 pickup at Auto Guangzhou 2024, defers PH arrival to Q2 2025

GUANGZHOU: Jianghuai Automobile Company Limited (JAC) displayed the T9 pickup truck at the ongoing Auto Guangzhou 2024.

To note, the bigger brother to the JAC T8 Pro was supposed to make its debut in the country late this year. However, JAC Philippines Brand Head Tonette Lee told Zigwheels Philippines that it will be launched locally in the second quarter of 2025.

We have also been told that the models that will be brought here will somehow be tailored for the Philippine market.

And while we await the final specifications of the upcoming JAC T9, here is a quick look at what is offered abroad.

JAC T9 global specs

Powertrain, chassis

Overseas, the JAC T9 is powered by a 2.0-liter diesel engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It can dish out approximately 170 horsepower (hp) with a respectable torque production of up to 420 Newton-meters.

Its top speed is 150 kilometers per hour.

Suspension-wise, the JAC T9 uses a double wishbone setup at the front with independent coil springs. At the rear, it relies on a multi-link system.

Deceleration and halts are facilitated by disc brakes — front and back.

Exterior

Like any tough truck, the JAC T9 boasts an imposing fascia with a large grille and a cluster of lights set on each side. The decent-sized hood is also chiseled enough to give the vehicle a muscular-looking fore.

Its side profile gets linear bodylines, which are reinforced by durable-looking appointments such as blacked-out wheel arches (that seamlessly connect to the front and rear bumper), side mirrors with black accents, a black B-pillar, and a solid-looking pair of running boards.

It rides on 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped with 265/60 series tires.

At the back, the JAC T9 is equipped with a decent-sized bed, which was highlighted by the boatload of gear packed on the unit on display at the auto show. Squarish taillamps are found on each side of the truck’s tailgate, as well as a chunky stepboard, and a tow hook for when one needs to haul cargo.

Interior

The interior of the JAC T9 displayed at the brand’s pavilion at Auto Guangzhou 2024 had orange seats. Likewise, the steering wheel and some of the trims on the dashboard and door cards sport the same lively hue.

Past the multi-functional steering wheel is a digital instrument cluster accompanied by a vertically oriented infotainment system with angular air conditioning vents. For a moment, the layout reminded us of the cockpit of one American pickup truck.

The bench seats at the rear appear to be well-cushioned and provide decent comfort for both short and long drives.

Dedicated air conditioning vents are available for those sitting at the back to keep them cool on a hot day.

JAC T9 EV

On top of the internal combustion engine (ICE)-driven JAC T9, the company also displayed a fully electric version of the pickup truck.

The JAC T9 EV uses an 88-kilowatt lithium-ion phosphate battery, which sends energy to permanent magnet synchronous motors. In unison, the electric powertrain produces some 295 horses with 94 hp coming from the front wheel axle and the remaining 201 coming from the rear wheels.

It bore major similarities to its ICE counterpart, but it can be differentiated by its more modern-looking front end. Likewise, its interior was fitted with brown upholstery.

PH launch date

As we briefly covered earlier, the JAC T9 will be launched in the Philippines in the second quarter of 2025.

JAC Philippines’ figurehead confirmed that it will be officially introduced at the upcoming Manila International Auto Show.
