Jaguar Land Rover milestone: Over 1.5-M Ingenium engines produced
MANILA: Jaguar Land Rover has now developed and produced more than 1.5 million Ingenium engines, as it celebrates the addition of a new and innovative powertrain offering in its flagship Engine Manufacturing Center (EMC) in the United Kingdom (UK).
The innovative Ingenium family consists of a selection of ultra-efficient, refined, and clean electrified, petrol, and diesel engines for all Land Rover and Jaguar models. The Ingenium brand was constructed to optimize vehicle performance and enhance fuel economy while mitigating running costs and environmental impact across the sibling brands' vehicle range.
The all-aluminum Ingenium engine configurations of Land Rover and Jaguar are scalable, versatile, and modular, with typical core advancements.
The newest inclusion to the Ingenium family is the six-cylinder diesel engine, which provides improved performance, efficiency, and smoothness. It powers the new Land Rover Range Rover Sport and the new Land Rover Range Rover.
The innovative in-line Ingenium diesel engine, which features mild hybrid technology, becomes part of the roster of efficient and clean six-cylinder petrol and four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines produced at the facility of Jaguar Land Rover in the West Midlands.
The six-cylinder diesel engine also shares its production facilities with the six-cylinder petrol engine, which was introduced in 2019. It features the comprehensive modern machining of the crankshaft, cylinder block, cylinder head, and the core architecture. It also includes the testing, metrology, and assembly of the engine.
The efficient and ever-changing Ingenium range has been produced to demonstrate the long-term dedication of the company to decrease fuel emissions as part of its Destination Zero advocacy. Along with this, the relentless development of the Ingenium engines is geared towards a cleaner environment, aside from promoting an engaging and responsive drive.
Jaguar Land Rover will continually advance its Ingenium technology and continuously revolutionize its model lineup electrification. It will also constantly build a concept hydrogen fuel cell powertrain solution.
Jaguar Land Rover Powertrain Operations Launch Director Ken Close stated that currently, there is a prevailing demand for cleaner-running vehicles. Thus, it is essential to produce fuel-efficient and clean engines without the need to compromise all-terrain capabilities and vehicle performance.
The EMC handles the assembly of electric drive units (EDUs). This provides complete flexibility between new diesel and petrol engines and EDUs for customers who are aiming to shift from traditional to electrified vehicles.
The EMC also provides engines for Jaguar Land Rover worldwide. Most of the powertrain units are utilized in UK-based plants, including Solihull, where the new Range Rover Sport and new Range Rover had their debut.
Meanwhile, the technologically innovative Battery Assembly Center at the Wolverhampton site handles the assembly of BEV and PHEV batteries, which will provide power to the next generation of Land Rover and Jaguar electrified vehicles.
