Maserati GranTurismo becomes a police car in Dubai

MANILA: Police cars are usually thought to be some heavy-duty vehicles and you don’t think of cars like Audi R8 to be part of a fleet of police cars, do you? It could only be in a dream where Maserati cars could become police cars.

But Dubai, as they say, is the city of dreams and this dream has come true over there. The city recently welcomed the newest addition to its fleet of police cars, a Maserati GranTurismo.

While it may not be a practical enough vehicle for police duties, the GranTurismo is a sports car with a 4.7-litre V8 engine which can throw out an insane 460 PS of maximum power. Thanks to this astonishing amount of power, the Maserati GranTurismo can reach up to a top speed of 295 kmph and do a 0-100 kmph run in less than five seconds.

It’d be amazing to be a highway patrol officer in Dubai, right? This newest addition is now part of Dubai Police’s high-performance fleet and has taken the tally of cars in the squadron to 20. Just like any other police vehicle, this Maserati GranTurismo also features flashing strobes, speed monitoring equipment, and a radio.

If you’re wondering what other cars are there in the Dubai Police’s high-performance fleet, the list includes the likes of Bugatti Veyron, Pagani Huayra, Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918, Lykan Hypersport, and others.

To burst the bubble, no, this fleet doesn’t carry out regular police duties. Instead, these cars patrol the tourist spots. The cars which are used by the Dubai Police for much of its work include the likes of Nissan Patrol, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, and many others. As a matter of fact, this Maserati GranTurismo is one of the last few which will have Ferrari engines inside their shell as the two brands are not renewing their contract that has been active since 2002.
