Mazda unboxes CX-90 in PH

MANILA: Following the announcement of its arrival early this year, Mazda has launched the first-ever CX-90 in the Philippines.

Mazda Philippines President and Chief Executive Steven Tan described the three-row sport utility vehicle (SUV) as the “pinnacle of Mazda Premium.”

“It is our most advanced model ever with exceptional levels of sophistication all throughout that can be enjoyed not just by the driver, but by the whole family,” he said.

“It offers powerful and responsive performance, alluring design, and intuitive technology. The CX-90 is a breakthrough vehicle not just in its segment, but in our quest to become a brand with premium aspirations,” he added.

Powertrain

The newly-revealed model is propelled by the all-new e-Skyactiv-G 3.3-liter inline-six turbo mill, which by itself, can deliver 280 horsepower (hp) and 450 Newton-meters of torque.

It is integrated into a 48-volt hybrid system (positioned between the engine and the gearbox) that can dish out nearly 17 horses and 153 Nm of pulling power. If its lithium-ion battery has sufficient juice, the Mazda CX-90 can run on electric power with the gasoline mill disengaged.

The mill is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that has no torque converter.

Further, the Mazda CX-90 features a front-engine, rear-wheel-bias all-wheel drive layout with kinematic posture control to guarantee an enjoyable driving experience. The design is complemented by the Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-DRIVE) system — offering the driver four switchable drive modes: normal, sport, off-road, and towing.

Exterior

The second model under the brand’s Large Product Platform, the Mazda CX-90 is 5,120 millimeters (mm) long, and 1,994 mm wide with a 3,120 mm wheelbase.

Just like the other Mazda vehicles, the Mazda CX-90 wears sleek curves that brings the model to a distinct level of sophistication via the different shades created by the reflections of light and shadow.

It is also endowed with chrome trimmings as well as 21-inch diamond-cut wheels in black metallic finish.

Mazda Philippines also brought the brand’s latest Takuminuri color, which is the Artisan Red Premium. The said body color option — which provides a hue similar to mature fine wine — was specifically developed for the CX-90.

Interior

Inside, the Mazda CX-90 boasts an equally-refined cabin with a well-crafted interior and increased space.

Seen inside are the metallic accents on the dashboard and doors, to match the Nappa leather and Leganu suede inserts.

Per Mazda Philippines’ the model’s base trim has the capacity to carry eight occupants, while the top-of-the-line version was designed to have a six-seater configuration.

Its luggage capacity can grow from 257 liters behind the second- and third-row seats, to as much as 2,025 liters when the middle and last rows are folded flat. To make cargo loading and unloading easier, the Mazda CX-90 has a power tailgate.

Technology

Other amenities inside the vehicle are the 12.3-inch infotainment center display, a fully-digital 12.3-inch driver’s instrument panel; a 10.4-inch heads-up display; the latest Mazda Connect system that has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity; a 12-speaker Bose sound system; tri-zone climate control; panoramic sunroof; rear door sunshades; second- and third-row USB-C charging ports; ambient lighting, among others.

Moreover, the SUV comes with the Mazda Driver Personalization System, which automatically adjusts the seats, door mirrors, heads-up display, and steering wheel with the help of facial recognition technology. It can also keep 250 stored settings to match the driver’s preferences, including vehicle, audio, and climate settings.

Also, the Mazda CX-90’s Driver Entry/Exit Assist automatically slides the seats and steering wheel back for recognized drivers for easier ingress and egress.

It also hosts a myriad of safety technologies under i-Activsense such as front and rear smart brake support; Mazda radar cruise control with cruising and traffic support; adaptive LED headlamps; lane departure warning with lane keep assist; blind spot monitoring with vehicle exit warning; front and rear cross traffic alert with brake support.

Likewise, the Mazda CX-90’s see-through View of the 360-degree view monitor assists in a variety of parking situations by displaying obstacles in the vehicle’s blind spots on the center display.

Variants, colors, pricing

Available in Artisan Red Premium, Rhodium White Premium, Machine Gray, Platinum Quartz, Sonic Silver, Deep Crystal Blue, and Jet Black, the Mazda CX-90 is retailed in two variants at the following prices inclusive of a five-year free service plan: 

• 3.3L AWD HEV Turbo: P3.68 million
• 3.3L AWD HEV Turbo Exclusive: P3.78 million
