Mitsubishi teases upcoming Pajero anew with retro-inspired off-road-focused feature

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has once again teased the upcoming Pajero by showing an illustrative image of its multi-meter. 

For some, this teaser may be a bit slim on the details, but upon closer inspection, the said image shows a triple digital gauge setup which includes one for an altitude meter, as well as separate gauges for vehicle roll and pitch - all crucial parameters for hardcore off-road rigs. 

Furthermore, the Japanese brand says this multimeter can also display ambient temperature, torque distribution, and compass heading. 

On this note, the teaser for the next-generation Pajero’s multi-meter supports the brand’s statement that this sport utility vehicle (SUV) model will be an “authentic off-road performance” nameplate that is capable of “cross-country” travel.

Notably, the multi-meter is clearly a nod to the highly capable Mitsubishi Pajero models of old, which themselves also came with a triple gauge pod. Historically, these are first- and second-generation Pajero models, as well as the Pajero Evolution, all of which won titles in the grueling yet prestigious Dakar Rally. 

As per the previous teaser, the combacking Pajero nameplate is due to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. For now, details about the said SUV remain scant, but an earlier teaser did showcase a very contemporary-looking LED daytime running lamp design. 

Previously, Mitsubishi likewise shared that it will continue to use a ladder-frame chassis, similar to the one used by the current locally available Triton pickup truck and the Montero Sport SUV. In this case, Zigwheels Philippines previously estimated that the upcoming Pajero could become the next-generation Montero Sport. 

In this case, we likewise predict (cautiously) that the upcoming next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero will come with a three-row seating arrangement and maybe even a turbodiesel mill.
