New Ghost is 'technologically most innovative' Rolls-Royce
MANILA: Rolls-Royce sets the bar for its most technologically innovative vehicle in its 116-year history, the new Rolls-Royce Ghost.
In 2009, Rolls-Royce confirmed a new addition to its lineup that provided something unique to its leading vehicle, the Phantom.
The vehicle mirrored a new community of men and women who reacted to the brand's continuous pursuit for excellence in workmanship, engineering, and design. Yet, they also pursued the more minimalist and modest expression of Rolls-Royce.
The production of the first Goodwood Rolls-Royce Ghost and its intense emphasis on satisfying the demands of its customers was undoubtedly successful. Moreover, over its entire 10-year life cycle, this groundbreaking motor car became the most profitable product in the brand’s 116-year heritage.
The success of Rolls-Royce Ghost was crucial in allowing the company to increase production, invest in its abilities, and build Rolls-Royce as an international brand to date.
Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Torsten Müller-Ötvös said, “The first Goodwood Ghost was a response to a whole new generation of clients, both in age and attitude. These men and women asked us for a slightly smaller, less ostentatious means to own a Rolls-Royce. Over its 10-year lifespan, which began in 2009, Ghost has become the most successful model in the marque’s 116-year history.”
In addition, the 10-year market presence of Ghost allowed the brand's Luxury Intelligence Specialists to collect valuable information on evolving behaviors in how Ghost customers use their motor vehicle, how they view Rolls-Royce, and how they order it.
Thanks to the dynamic and active personality of the Ghost, customers realized that the Rolls-Royce brand could provide more than an efficient driving experience.
In some areas of Europe and in the US, clients were self-driving their new Ghost from the early phases of its launch.
In Asia, clients were actively participating in the onboard connected technology for leisure or business.
The new Rolls-Royce Ghost mirrors a “post-opulent” design philosophy, wherein apparent expressions of wealth were abolished and reduction and substance were also emphasized.
As a result, unique materials need to be chosen for a design that is unhindered, intelligent, and minimalistic.
The new Rolls-Royce Ghost was also built on innovative aluminum spaceframe architecture. The spaceframe was first utilized on the Rolls-Royce Phantom, then on the Cullinan. It allows the engineers and designers of the brand to create a genuine, super-luxury product, which does not have restrictions in terms of platforms used for supporting high-volume vehicles.
With the requirement that previous Ghost clients had with their motor vehicle, Rolls-Royce utilized its architecture to respond to their needs, integrating technology like all-wheel steering and all-wheel drive in the new Ghost for unparalleled surefootedness and stance. This unlocked a new and meaningful personality in the vehicle.
The new Ghost also features the world’s first planar suspension system that considerably enhances effortlessness and agility. It is also fitted with a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, which generates 850Nm of torque and 563hp.
Furthermore, doors can electrically open and close for more convenient egress and a down-lit Pantheon grille unobtrusively brings light to the iconography of Rolls-Royce. The illuminated fascia is also well-emphasized as it features the Ghost nameplate adorned with over 850 stars.
Inside, the parts are tuned to a particular resonant frequency to establish a sense of tranquility.
A resonance chamber is integrated into the new Ghost, particularly in its body's sill section. Through this, the frequency response of the Bespoke Audio speaker component emphasized the shape and size of the chamber. Essentially, this changes the motor vehicle into a subwoofer.
The new Ghost also features a new Micro-Environment Purification System (MEPS). The air filtration technology was further improved to integrate a complete array of software and hardware enhancements.
Highly sensitive impurity detection sensors were launched to monitor ambient air quality. This instantaneously switches fresh air intakes to Recirculation Mode if intolerable levels of airborne contaminants are in the air.
Considering all its new updates, the new Rolls-Royce Ghost is a motor vehicle that is custom-built for the needs of its clients, as it champions simplicity and impressive substance.
