The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is able to dish out some 541 horses.Per the German car brand, the sports car topped 17 other finalists and won the nod of a jury composed of some 96 automotive journalists from 30 countries.
This win is Porsche’s eighth title in the category at the prestigious annual car awards.
“Porsche has now claimed a total of nine World Car Awards, eight of which have been for performance models. The victory underscores the brand’s ongoing commitment to blending innovation with dynamic driving excellence,” the company said in a press release.
T-Hybrid technology
According to the Stuttgart-headquartered brand, the jury has cited the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS’ motorsports-derived T-Hybrid technology as a major consideration in the model clinching the World Performance Car title.
The said hybrid system works by combining a 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine with two electric motors integrated into the transmission and the turbocharger (eTurbo).

The said setup is also able to propel the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in three seconds with a top speed of 312 kph.
Porsche explained that the eTurbo helps eliminate lag by using an electric motor to instantly spin the turbine shaft to deliver boost pressure regardless of engine speed. In addition, it also works as a generator to recover energy and charge the sports car’s 1.9 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery.
A second motor, built into the eight-speed PDK (dual-clutch) transmission, provides additional torque and recuperates up to 40 kilowatts during braking and coasting.
