Porsche sales slide by 5% in Q1

The Cayenne was the best-selling Porsche model in the first quarter of 2022, with 19,029 units sold.In a statement, Porsche AG Executive Board for Sales and Marketing Member Detlev von Platen said, “In light of the exceptional circumstances affecting the wider automotive industry, our sales teams and dealers performed well in the first quarter. The resurgence of the coronavirus in some regions such as China, coupled with ongoing significant supply and logistical challenges, have put us to the test. At the same time, our products continue to be in high demand among customers worldwide — equally in Europe, the Americas, and China.”
The issues faced by Porsche in different regions of the world painted a varied picture when it comes to deliveries. In Europe, Porsche sold 22,791 units in the first quarter, a rise of 18% year over year despite exceptionally good statistics in the same period in 2021. Numbers were also up in Germany, the brand's home market, with 6,925 deliveries indicating a 16% growth. Porsche delivered 17,685 units in China, the sports car manufacturer's largest single market. The re-emergence of the coronavirus, along with the shutdown of Porsche Centers in some regions and logistical issues, resulted in a 20% drop in sales.
Porsche delivered a total of 28,991 units to customers throughout Asia Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East. Notably, the Porsche Asia Pacific region had its best first quarter ever, with a strong 23% increase in sales in Q1 2022 over the previous year, despite the region's Q1 2021 deliveries already surpassing all-time highs.
Amid supply and transit challenges affecting numerous car companies, 13,042 Porsche vehicles were delivered to customers in the United States.
Porsche's SUV models were in high demand once again, with 19,029 Cayenne units delivered to customers. On the other hand, 18,329 Macan units were sold in the first quarter. There were 9,470 orders for the all-electric Taycan, while the 911 was delivered to 9,327 customers around the world. At total of 7,735 Panamera units were sold and 4,536 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman units were delivered.
“We remain guarded as we move into the second quarter, particularly in light of the armed conflict in Ukraine, which we view with consternation and concern for those involved,” Detlev von Platen stated. “The health and safety of the people are paramount. The impact on our business activities is being continuously reviewed and assessed by our task force of experts. In spite of all this, we remain optimistic in our overall outlook and won't be making any compromises when it comes to creating emotive and unique experiences for our customers.”
