Porsche delivers 9,470 Taycan cars worldwide in Q1 2022
MANILA: Porsche touts that the Taycan remains one of the brand’s most sought-after models, with global deliveries of the fully electric four-door sports car continuing to rise in the first quarter of the year.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What steps is Porsche taking to reach carbon neutrality?
Porsche is investing in its own charging infrastructure, requiring production suppliers to use renewable energy, and initiated the construction of synthetic fuel plants. How many electric models does Porsche aim to have in its lineup by 2030?
Porsche plans that more than 80% of its new models will be electric by 2030.Porsche in the first three months of 2022 delivered 9,470 Taycan models to customers worldwide, an increase of 4.4% from the same period of the previous year.
Sales of the Taycan in the entire 12 months of 2021 reached 41,296 units, already more than double the figure for 2020.
Last year, nearly 40% of all new Porsche vehicles delivered in Europe were partly electric (like plug-in hybrids) or were fully electric models. By 2025, half of all new Porsche sales worldwide are expected to come from such electrified and fully electric models.
Porsche aims to have more than 80% of its total global deliveries in 2030 to be composed of fully electric vehicles. In addition, Porsche intends to be carbon net neutral by 2030.
To achieve these ambitious goals, Porsche — together with partners — is investing in premium charging stations, as well as in its own charging infrastructure. Further extensive investments are flowing into core technologies such as battery systems and module production. The company is also currently developing and producing high-performance battery cells that are expected to be ready for series production by 2024.
Porsche is continuously reviewing every aspect of its electrification strategy. One of its milestones last year was the roll out of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, a fully electric model with rugged versatility that has been designed as the brand’s first production model to be carbon-neutral over its entire service life.
Another significant sustainability goal reached in 2021 was having Porsche’s manufacturing sites in Zuffenhausen, Weissach, and Leipzig achieve balance-sheet carbon-neutral status. Beyond its own factory gates, the company has also started requiring its approximately 1,300 series suppliers to use renewable energy for all contracts which were newly awarded beginning July 2021.
Adding to its electromobility initiatives, the company is developing and making use of synthetic fuel, or eFuels, which can potentially be almost entirely carbon-neutral, and which lends itself well to vehicles with internal combustion engines. Porsche has already initiated the construction of an eFuels pilot plant in Chile.
In the Philippines, the Taycan is leading the drive toward sustainable electromobility. Through the “FutureNow” program, the Taycan is supported locally by major investments on facilities specifically designed and equipped to address the unique requirements and safety standards of electric vehicles.
Additional spending have also been earmarked on the acquisition of manufacturer-approved equipment, tools and software, as well as an inventory of genuine parts.
Porsche Philippines has been offering the fully electric Taycan in the country since 2020, and demand for the four-door sports car has consistently increased since then.
