Suzuki eVitara gains ‘2025 Car of the Year Special Award’ for its compact size, AWD system

MANILA: The Suzuki eVitara has received the “2025 Car of the Year Special Award” from the NPO Automotive Research and Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC). 

Per RJC, the said model is noted for its compact body size and all-wheel-drive (AWD) layout - two qualities that make it the ideal ride in Japan’s “diverse road conditions.” Of particular note are the country's snowy northern regions. 

On the other hand, the Suzuki eVitara’s size can also do well in Philippine roads, which tend to be tight, especially in the cities. Also, its AWD system can be used in the local setting by drivers who need to navigate unpaved, often muddy roads. 

Going back to its award win, RJC likewise praised the fact that the Suzuki eVitara is a truly global model. As Suzuki shared, RJC noted that the car is the amalgamation of advanced technologies developed all across Asia, whilst being produced at the brand’s latest manufacturing facility in India. 

“We are delighted that the eVitara has been selected for the 2026 RJC Car of the Year Special Award,” Representative Director and President of Suzuki Motor Corporation Toshihiro Suzuki said. 

“The eVitara is Suzuki’s first battery EV SUV to be introduced as a global model in more than 100 countries and regions around the world. Taking this award as an opportunity, we will strive to make the eVitara a car that is even more beloved by customers worldwide,” Suzuki added.

Specs-wise, the Suzuki eVitara’s dual-motor, AWD Allgrip-e variant can produce up to 184 horsepower. It also has a range of 391 kilometers, according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). 

For now, Suzuki Philippines Incorporated has yet to indicate if the eVitara will enter the local market, but do remember that it is a global model for the brand. We might have to wait a while, but we are guessing that it’ll at least have a chance to enter the Southeast Asian region in the near future.

This November 2025, Suzuki Philippines Incorporated, together with Sakura Autoworld Incorporated, opened a new dealership in Surigao City. It is a 3S (sales, service, spare parts) facility, and it boasts four fully equipped vehicle bays, as well as a three-car showroom. 

The Japanese brand’s local arm also expanded its dealership network by opening a new facility in Iligan City. This new outlet is owned and managed by DES Strong Motors Incorporated, and it likewise boasts well-equipped service bays and a welcoming showroom.
