Suzuki starts selling eVitara in India, will PH have it soon?

MANILA: Suzuki has started selling the brand eVitara in India.

The distributor started selling the brand’s first-ever full-electric model last month after making it available in key markets such as Europe and Japan. To note, this model is produced at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat.

Per Suzuki, the model will be exported to more than 100 countries around the world. To recall, the said model recently made it to the Department of Energy’s battery electric vehicle list.

Back in 2024, the model’s prototype version (called the EVX Concept) was also seen in the 9th Philippine International Motor Show — alongside the Suzuki Jimny Rhino Editions.

Here are some details about the Suzuki eVitara as seen in the documentation from the Philippines’ energy department.

Vehicle specifications

Powering the vehicle is an electric motor at the front. This mill has the capacity to provide maximum churns of up to:

Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	193

Mated to a single speed electric drive that act as gearbox, the Suzuki eVitara can jump from 0-100 in 8.7 seconds and hit a peak speed of 150 kph.

Meanwhile, its energy bank (that can be juiced up using a CCS2 direct current and a Type 2 alternating current charging inlet) lets it cover 426 kilometers

Stopping power is guaranteed by ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels while ensuring stability are the MacPherson struts at the fore and a multi-link system at the back. 

In terms of aesthetics, the Suzuki eVitara (which Zigwheels Philippines saw in a recent trip to Japan) features chunky bumpers, wheel arches, and side sills as well as blacked out pillars and side mirrors.

Other notable exterior portions that can be found in the Suzuki eVitara include power-adjustable windows with turn signals, front fog lamps, and a set of 18-inch wheels wrapped in 225/55 tires. 

For its interior, the crossover has Types A and C USB ports, a 12-volt accessory socket, and a wireless charging dock. 

In terms of safety, the Suzuki e-Vitara boasts these technologies: 

• Multiple collision braking 
• Lane departure prevention
• Lane keep assist
• Adaptive high beam assist 
• Blind spot monitor 
• Rear cross-traffic alert 
• Anti-lock braking 
• Electronic brake-force distribution 
• Electronic stability program 

Additionally, the Suzuki eVitara is also fitted with a Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBS II) system, which was also made available for the updated Jimny 3-door.  To note, the DBS II uses “a monocular camera and millimeter-wave radar to detect vehicles and pedestrians ahead.” This system also produces audio and visual warnings and can automatically apply the brakes when necessary.
