Toyota partially updates GR86

MANILA: Toyota has partially updated the GR86—with the pre-orders in Japan starting on August 28.

Per the Japanese automaker, the new Toyota GR86 received exterior, interior, and technological enhancements.

Here’s what the updated Toyota GR86 now comes with.

Outside, the new Toyota GR86 brought back the well-received "Solid Gray" exterior color that was available for roughly half a year on the 86, while, inside, the switches of the model’s RZ trim have been redesigned with improved grip for better ease of use and painted in low-reflectivity cast iron black not only heighten the sense of class but also allow the driver to focus more on driving.

The black-and-red interior color scheme, available as a factory-installed option, now features red accents that wrap the driver.

Driving dynamics have been further refined as the throttle control settings have been adjusted to ensure intuitive handling and instinctive responsiveness when exiting corners, driving on low-friction surfaces (wet or snow).

Its electric power steering control enables precise steering that allows tracing of the intended line by removing wobble in high-speed corners and on rough surfaces.

The chamfer on the manual transmission shift interlock is now 0.5 millimeter broader for enhanced operability when downshifting from fifth to fourth gear, ensuring smoother, stress-free, at-the-limit corner entry.

The result is a seamless transition from deceleration to turn-in that delivers the GR86's signature responsive driving performance.

Further, the new Toyota GR86’s EyeSight driver-assist system is now fitted with a triple-camera configuration from the previous two-camera arrangement.

To note, around 110,000 Toyota GR86 units were released in 2021—making it the most widely delivered model in the GR-exclusive lineup.
