Powertrain, chassis
The MG S5 EV packs an electric motor at the rear that makes around 167 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque. It gets juice from a 49-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery — with a 110 millimeter (mm) thickness — to provide would-be owners with approximately 415-kilometers of range on a single charge.
According to MG Philippines, its rear-wheel drive layout and low center of gravity (due to the high-voltage battery) give the S5 EV a planted feel. And thanks to its multi-link rear suspension, it delivers a sporty and agile ride.
Exterior
Outside, the MG S5 EV boasts an aerodynamic exterior. Notable features pointed out by the brand during the product’s preview presentation are its “Checkered Flag” LED lights with a full-length LED bar at the rear, active grille shutters, functional air dams, and 17-inch alloy wheels with aerodynamic panels.
Per the brand, the above features — save for the race-inspired illumination, of course — help reduce drag, which improves energy consumption and NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) levels.
During the brief, it was noted that the MG S5 EV achieves a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.28. Putting things into perspective, crossovers usually clock in at Cd 0.36, while sedans are usually at around Cd 0.32.
Interior
The cabin of the MG S5 EV gets a mix of comfort and tech-oriented appointments, such as seats with a mix of fabric and leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, and a 12.8-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In addition, it gets four speakers, an air conditioning system with automatic climate control, as well as a rotary shift knob.
August launch
MG Philippines will launch the S5 EV next month. Full specifications and pricing, as well as introductory promos, will be reported after its debut.
