JAC Ytterby

Upon entering the JAC Ytterby, you’ll notice that its cabin is spacious and high-tech for its starting price point. Both variants come with a black interior finish, but the higher trim also offers a Coca Brown option for more sophistication. Its leather seats are not the most plush in its segment but provide decent cushioning and support for all occupants. One of its weak points, however, is its limited trunk space. 

Drivers of both variants have access to a 6.2-inch full LCD instrument screen with a dimmer switch as well as a multifunctional leather steering wheel. In terms of entertainment and information accessibility, the higher trim gets a 15.6-inch MP5 floating central touch screen, which is connected to an 8-speaker sound system. On the other hand, the lower trim gets a 12.8-inch version that is linked to a 4-speaker sound system. This model line’s infotainment system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth Handsfree, and an MP5 Player 8G Memory with a 64G expandable storage–talk about high-tech for a small EV. 

However, it might be too high-tech for its own good as there is a noticeable lack of physical controls or switches inside the cabin. Most of the features are controlled through the touchscreen infotainment display, which others might find annoying or complicated. 

Both variants get front USB ports, rear Type C charging ports, and front 12V power outlets. But, only the higher trim comes with a wireless charger and a 64-color ambient lighting system for additional aesthetics inside.

The JAC Ytterby’s cute retro-modern design resembles the last generation Volkswagen Beetle, most especially its facade that sports a pair of round “Angel Eyes” LED headlamps with DRLs. For a more premium look, the higher trim, Pro 505, gets a dual tone body color and 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels. In contrast, the lower trim, Air 405, is given a single tone body color and 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The higher trim gets a black roof with a panoramic sunroof for an increased aesthetic appeal. Both variants feature a smooth futuristic fascia with a black lower grille. 

On the sides, the higher trim gets black door mirrors, whereas the lower trim gets the body-colored version. Both have hidden door handles (electric swing open) for a more modern touch. Meanwhile, its cute character also translates to its hindlook. It features polygonal LED combined tail lamps and rear fog lamps for more visibility, especially at night. The JAC Ytterby line measures 4,025 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,560 mm in height. It has a 2,620 mm wheelbase and a 130 mm minimum ground clearance.

The JAC Ytterby utilizes a McPherson independent suspension at the front, while a Torsion Beam semi-independent suspension at the rear. Thanks to its suspension setup and its small build, the Ytterby is very easy to maneuver even in tight spaces and through traffic. It doesn’t have that much bump absorption capability considering its ground clearance, but you’ll be able to achieve a relatively stable ride with this EV. Overall, it is light and comfortable to bring anywhere (where there are charging stations).

In terms of powertrain, both variants of the JAC Ytterby are powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronization motor, which are tuned differently and have different battery packs. First, the lower trim, Air 405’s electric motor produces a maximum power output of 94 hp and a maximum torque of 135 Nm. Its electric motor comes paired with a 41 kWh battery pack that delivers an autonomy CLTC driving range of 405 kms. 

On the other hand, the higher trim, Pro 505’s electric motor produces a maximum power output of 134 hp and a maximum torque of 175 Nm. The electric motor is tied with a 51.5 kWh battery pack that delivers an autonomy CLTC driving range of up to 505 kms.

For its small size, the JAC Ytterby model line has a surprisingly peppy powertrain, allowing it to have an instant pull both in the city and on the highway. It is a feasible daily driver in the city since its driving ranges are sufficient enough to get you from point A to point B within the Metro. Sometimes, you can even use the higher trim for your out-of-town trips with family and friends. But, remember to plan ahead. It runs smoothly and is enjoyable to drive.

The JAC Ytterby’s higher trim gets a long list of advanced driver assistance systems, but sadly, its lower trim doesn’t. The Pro 505’s ADAS includes blind spot detection, door open warning, cross traffic warning, lane departure warning, lane cross warning, front collision warning, auto headlamp switch, lane keep assistance, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency brake, and intelligent cruise assistance. Both variants come with many standard and modern safety and security features.

The JAC Ytterby line utilizes ventilation discs for front braking and regular discs for rear. Its braking setup is equipped with an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, dynamic-assisted braking system, traction control system, and a brake assist system.

In my opinion, the JAC Ytterby deserves more attention from local consumers. For its accessible price points, this EV is very well-packed with tech and safety features and is practical and reliable for everyday use. You should definitely consider this when buying your first-ever EV.
