Fuel economy significantly drops under load
If you’re judging the Toyota Hilux on towing power alone, you will be impressed, as it does a solid job. It easily pulls trailers, and even with a full load behind it, doesn’t feel strained. The stability while towing is quite good, and on highways, it inspires confidence. However, every mile towed seems to be expensive. Depending on terrain, the fuel economy drastically drops to around 19 mpg or sometimes even lower. It is manageable for light-duty work, but for people like me who tow frequently, it may not be a good choice, as running costs quickly add up.
