Top 4 reasons to get the JAC JS4

Well-equipped but highly comfortable crossover

Top 4 reasons to get the JAC JS4

Crossovers have risen to become the dominant vehicle class in the market. As such, any car brand, from major ones to those new to the market, has since added a crossover offering in various sizes. Some still have sedans, but there’s no doubt that crossovers are now their respective best-sellers.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the price of the JAC JS4 in the Philippines?

The JAC JS4 in the Philippines retails at P1.025 million.
  • How much horsepower and torque can the JAC JS4 produce?

The JAC JS4 can produce up to 147 horsepower and 210 Newton-meters of torque.
  • Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corporation (JAC) Motor Philippines is one example of these fledgling brands that started in the Philippines with a crossover. For reference, it entered the market back in 2018 with the now-discontinued S2 and S3 crossover nameplates.

Fast forward to 2025 now sells a variety of nameplates ranging from subcompact to mid-size models. The second smallest, of course, is the JS4, which is only a smidge larger than the JS2 Pro

So, what are the key reasons to buy a JAC JS4? Let’s find out here.

    Decent powertrain output

Considering its relatively small size, the JAC JS4 makes plenty of power. Sure, it isn’t the lightest model in the segment with its curb weight of 1,365 kilograms, but its 1.5-liter turbocharged mill makes the right amount of power and torque for its size and weight.

For reference, its four-banger gasoline engine can produce up to 147 hp and 210 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. To temper one’s expectations, the JS4 isn’t the most powerful among subcompact crossovers. Otherwise, it is the peppiest within its price range.

Handling ride quality and stability for the JAC-made crossover is a MacPherson strut for the front and a torsion beam rear suspension. Braking is handled by discs for all four wheels.

Like many of its rivals, the JAC JS4 uses a front-wheel-drive layout. It also utilizes a continuous variable transmission (CVT).

    Plenty of safety gear

One huge reason to buy the JAC JS4 is its abundance of safety equipment. Although it may not have a suite of advanced driver-assist systems, it already covers all the basics, which is especially crucial for people wanting to acquire the JAC nameplate as a daily driver.

For starters, the model comes with dual front airbags, dual front side airbags, and side curtain airbags. The aforementioned amounts to six airbags, providing plenty of coverage for the vehicle’s cabin - a rarity for the JS4’s price point.

Other noteworthy safety equipment available to the JAC JS4 includes, but is not limited to, the following:

    • Anti-lock braking system
    • Electronic brake-force distribution
    • Electronic stability program
    • Hill-start assist
    • Brake override system
    • Tire-pressure monitoring
    • Rear parking sensors
    • Overspeed alarm
    • ISOFIX child seat anchors

    Comfortably five-seater

Yet another reason to get the JAC JS4 is its abundance of creature comforts. Inside, the model comes with a sufficiently roomy five-seater layout with seats wrapped in a combination of leather and fabric. Everyone inside, meanwhile, is kept cool by an automatic climate control system with rear vents. Both front and rear seats also come with center armrests.

For optimal space, the rear seats also get a 60:40 split-fold function. At default, the JS4’s trunk can fit up to 520 liters. With the rear seats folded down, its trunk space can accommodate up to 1,050 liters. The default trunk space of the JAC model, of course, is more than enough for a week’s worth of groceries, one or two medium-sized luggage items, or one’s weekly laundry run. The expanded space, meanwhile, is ideal for people who like to go out camping or are actually using their JAC JS4 units to haul around sports equipment.

Available to the crossover’s driver is a passive entry and passive start system, an electronic parking brake, a tilt-adjustable steering column, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an analog gauge cluster with a central digital display, a push-to-start button, and an ample amount of cup/bottle holders - among others.

For its infotainment system, the JAC JS4 was equipped with a 10.25-inch floating-type display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has Bluetooth and a six-piece speaker system. Other means to top-up devices inside the JAC model include front and rear USB ports and a 12-volt accessory outlet.

Concerning exterior equipment, the JAC JS4 has halogen headlamps, daytime running lamps, power-folding side mirrors, roof racks, and a set of 17-inch wheels. Interestingly, the model has a power sunroof, making it one of the most affordable crossovers that come with such a feature.

    Affordable

Considering what it offers to would-be adopters, the JAC JS4 is very affordable. For the unaware, the JAC crossover’s sold variant for the local market starts at P1.025 million. With that price tag, the JS4 is significantly more affordable than the Changan CS35 Plus and the Geely Coolray

Moreover, the JAC JS4 is packaged with a five-year, or 150,000-kilometer warranty, whichever comes first.

    Final thoughts

Overall, the JAC JS4 is good value for the money. It may not be the fanciest subcompact crossover in the market right now, but for sure, it covers all the basics. Specifically, it has a robust safety kit, plenty of creature comforts, and a relatively peppy powertrain.

Moreover, the model has some key points that make it really stand out among other similarly-priced models, which are usually low-spec variants from other nameplates. The aforementioned includes its power sunroof, and the presence of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - a must-have for the modern driver who relies a lot on navigation and music streaming apps.

One pain point of the JAC JS4, however, is its lack of ADAS, but many drivers won’t be bothered by this.

Sounds good overall, but we encourage those gunning for the JAC JS4 to give it a good test drive first. Doing so, after all, will make for a better car-buying experience in the end.
