2019 Suzuki Ertiga: What to expect

Suzuki Ertiga always had an upper hand when compared to the rest of the MPVs in its segment primarily because of two reasons - first, it is affordable and feature-laden and second, it is from Suzuki which means it is reliable and after sales service won’t be an issue thanks to Suzuki’s nationwide vast network. The Ertiga served its owners quite well for the last few years and needed an upgrade. Thankfully, Suzuki was quick to react and the second-generation Ertiga debuted in April 2018 at the Indonesia International Motor Show. Unfortunately, over all those past months, we kept on waiting and Suzuki didn’t bother to bring the new Ertiga here in the Philippines, until now.

Suzuki Philippines has just announced that it is bringing the all-new Ertiga 2019 in the country. That is good news. However, Suzuki hasn’t really revealed the specifications of the MPV. So, we are listing a few things that you can expect with the new 2019 Ertiga.

New headlamps

The next-gen Suzuki Ertiga is going to have a set of new headlamps. They are going to have a new design and inside elements. That means not only they will look better than that of the predecessor model, but they’re going to perform better as well thanks to the projector setup.

New front grille

As far as the looks are concerned, there was nothing really bad about the outgoing Ertiga model, but it did not really demand any kind of attention. Suzuki has rectified that by providing a new front grille. This features a modern setup which includes small horizontal chrome bars placed at equal distances. They really look nice and compliment the overall front fascia of the MPV.

Sharper side profile

To remove the boredom from the side profile of the car, Suzuki has incorporated two sharp character lines. These run along the front and rear doors. One is located near the windows and goes through the door handles. The other one is located towards the bottom end of the doors. They serve the purpose of keeping things busy on the side.

New tail lamps

Just like the headlamps, the tail lights of the new Suzuki Ertiga have been revamped as well. They are now much bigger than what we’re used to seeing in the outgoing model. This will help in making the car more visible to other from the rear. The new tail lamps are also stacked up vertically and cover up the D-pillar.

New interior

The interior of the outgoing Ertiga was similar to its exterior, boring. However, the new model is expected to have a bit of liveliness. Suzuki would have revised the dashboard design to make it much more modern and good-looking. We are expecting to see a new infotainment system with Android Auto and/or Apple CarPlay support, new AC vents, and new cubby storage areas. Suzuki would also use some faux wood finishing here and there in the cabin of the new Ertiga to add a bit of premium-ness.

We are also expecting to see a new instrument cluster with an updated MID in the middle that would display all the necessary bits of information. There could be a number of USB ports across the cabin.

Comfort and cabin space

Being a 7-seater, the Ertiga always had quite a spacious cabin. Both the front and second-row passengers had a sufficient amount of space to move around a bit. But people have reported about feeling a bit claustrophobic when seated in the last row seats. We are expecting Suzuki to have rectified this problem by managing to increase the space that is available at the 3rd-row seats.

New engine

The outgoing model of Suzuki Ertiga is powered by a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that has been tuned to churn out a max power of 95 hp and 130 Nm peak torque. This is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Suzuki has not announced the engine details of the new Eritga 2019 but we are expecting it to come with the same 1.5-litre engine that has been fitted in the Indonesian model. This engine is programmed to produce 103 hp and 138 Nm.

Suzuki Philippines is all set to launch the new Ertiga 2019 here in the country on 23 Jan 2019. More and exact details regarding the MPV will be revealed only then. As of now, you’d need to hold on to your horses for a few more days until you get to know the price of the new Eritga. The current generation comes at a starting price of Php 699,000, expect a slight increase in the pricing of the new model.
