2020 Chevy Corvette C8 is not sold out yet, but…
MANILA: If you are one of those people who is looking forward to buying the C8 Corvette, there’s no need to panic, the Stingray is not sold out yet.
The confusion stemmed from Barry Engle, president of North America for General Motors, statement that "the first year is sold out for 2020." Which some understood that all the units have been sold. However, what Engle was referring to was the preorders for next year’s production. Chevrolet clarified this statement, reiterating that the company is "humbled by the overwhelming demand for the 2020 Corvette Stingray."
Last October, Chevy has already received 37,000 reservations through a "Reserve Now" function on the company website. It was assumed that approximately 40,000 units will make up for the first batch of production, but Chevy clarified that it has not put a definite number on how many Corvettes will roll out of the assembly line next year.
The thing is, reserving a unit doesn’t require any monetary deposit. This means, Chevy, through its network of dealership, would have to convert these preorders into actual sales first. In the most simple language: reserving a unit does not equal sales. So NO, the Stingray is not yet sold out. Unless the reserved units are converted to actual sales, there are still Corvette to be had.
The mid-engine C8 is the fastest Corvette ever produced in history. Under its hood is a 6.2-litre naturally aspirated pushrod V-8 that delivers 490 hp of power. It can go from zero to 97 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and has an impressive top speed of 312 km/h.
The Stingray is bound for production in February 2020. It was initially set to begin by the latter part of 2019 but was stalled due to the ongoing negotiations with the UAW.
