3rd Gen Toyota Vios wears sharp new look, Safety Sense in 4th facelift

MANILA: The third-generation XP150 Toyota Vios is still on the market in the Philippines and Vietnam, where it recently underwent a facelift. This is despite the fact the fourth-generation Toyota Vios has been introduced in a few ASEAN markets.

The 2023 Toyota Vios officially began selling in Vietnam in May, with three different models being made available to buyers there. The E MT is the entry-level choice, followed by the mid-range E CVT and the top-of-the-line G CVT.

2023 Toyota Vios Redesign

This version of the Vios has undergone three facelifts since its debut in 2013, and the most recent one adds a new face, notably the one seen on the updated Yaris that arrived in Thailand two months ago. This hammerhead shark-inspired style has a more assertive front bumper, notched headlamps, and a combination of real and fake air intakes.

The rear remains largely unchanged from the front with the same tail light design, with the exception of some minor reflector adjustments. The inside of the 2023 Toyota Vios follows a similar pattern, with the same dashboard layout but a modified center stack that is intended to provide room for a larger head unit.

As for powertrain options, the 2023 Toyota Vios is still powered by a 2NR-FE 1.5 liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 140Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm and 106hp at 6,000 rpm. The front wheels are driven by the Dual VVT-i mill through either a CVT or a five-speed manual transmission.

The Vios E MT is equipped with three airbags, including one for the driver's knee, a reverse camera, 15-inch alloy wheels, manual air conditioning, new Type-C USB ports for rear passengers, fabric seat upholstery, a urethane steering wheel, ABS, EBD, brake assist, vehicle stability control, traction control, and hill start assist.

With automated LED headlamps, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an Optitron instrument panel, the E CVT improves upon the standard model. A 4.2-inch multi-info display, updated paddle shifters, automatic air conditioning, keyless entry and engine start, cruise control, seven airbags, and front and rear parking sensors are all added to the G CVT, which improves upon the E CVT.

A larger nine-inch touchscreen head unit, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, replaces the old 7-inch device in the range-topper. Pre-collision detection and lane departure warning are part of the Toyota Safety Sense suite, which is new for 2023 and exclusively offered with the G CVT. This is a first for the vehicle in Vietnam.
