BMW PH previews upcoming X5 M50 XDrive50e M Sport

MANILA: BWM Philippines, under the management of SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation, has previewed the upcoming X5 M50 xDrive50e M Sport. 

At the moment, the German marque’s local arm has not disclosed the full specifications and pricing details of the Philippine-spec X5 M50, but it promises to combine the sharp driving dynamics the brand is known for with the efficiency and environmental friendliness of a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV). 

Along with its peppy electrified powertrain, the aforementioned model is likewise set to provide its future adopters with the practicality and imposing styling cues of a sports utility vehicle (SUV). As expected of a premium nameplate, the upcoming model will feature a lot of creature comforts and on-board technologies as well. 

For now, let’s check out the specifications of the BMW X5 M50 XDrive 50e M Sport’s European version to find out what it is offering to prospective buyers.

Exterior

In markets located in Europe, the X5 M50 XDrive50e M Sport was designed to fit the role of a sportier-looking version of the well-known base model. With the M Sport badge, the X5’s exterior appearance was enhanced by a wealth of additional decorative trimmings, such as a set of 20-21-inch M wheels, sharply designed LED fixtures, and plenty of glossy black parts. 

Size-wise, the version currently sold in the United Kingdom (UK) has a length of 4,935-millimeters (mm), a width of 2,044-mm, and a height of 1,755-mm. It also boasts a ground clearance of 214-mm, and a wheelbase spanning 2,975-mm. 

Interior

Inside the UK-spec version of the X5 M50 XDrive50e M Sport is a cushy cabin fitted with a lot of premium materials. Its power-adjustable and generously bolstered seats are clad in quilted Sensafin artificial leather, while its dashboard and center console comes with a lot of brushed or polished bits. 

Dominating the dashboard of the X5’s PHEV variant is the BMW Curved Display, consisting of a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch central display. 

The widescreen display is powered by the German carmaker’s latest operating system, and it is capable of accepting commands via voice, touchscreen, or the iDrive touchpad controller. Smartphone connectivity, meanwhile, is provided by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

Other noteworthy interior features of the X5 M50 XDrive50e M Sport in Europe include, but are not limited to, the following:

Safety

The aforementioned are supported by the BMW Active Driving Assistant, which includes a frontal collision warning system, active blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, and many other advanced driver-assist systems. 

Powertrain

If we reference the one sold in the UK, the BMW X5 M50 XDrive50e M Sport uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 gasoline engine combined with two electric motors. The said system boasts a combined output of around 480 horsepower and 700 Newton-meters of torque. 

For better ride quality, the UK-spec model has an electronic air suspension. It is also equipped with active front vents, an electronic parking brake, a drive mode selector, and a regenerative braking system.

As mentioned above, no specifications were shared for the one coming to the Philippines. BMW’s local arm also didn’t share pricing details or an exact launch date, but otherwise, the company hinted that it will be happening soon.
