BMW's New Track focused Beast : M4 GTS Concept

MANILA: BMW's performance oriented M Division has officially revealed their first track focused version of the M4, called the M4 GTS, before its official public debut in Pebble Beach. BMW claims that the M4 GTS Concept is in line with the M3's tradition of making track-oriented cars.

The first model to have this track-oriented treatment was the E30 M3, which was then followed by the E30 M3 Sport Evolution, E36 M3 GT, E46 M3 CSL, E92 M3 GTS, and E90 M3 CRT. The revealed model, referred to as the F82, gets a grey paint finish with orange accents on the front splitter and bespoke wheels. The hood is made of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), to limit the car's weight, and blacked out kidney grille. In order to optimize air flow and aid aerodynamics, a pair of extra intakes have been added to the front fascia. The rear profile is characterized by a carbon fiber rear wing and a pair of OLED taillights.

In addition to the aforementioned aerodynamic upgrades, the car has received significant tweaks under the hood as well. The 3.0L twin-turbocharged engine, performing the power duty, is shared from the standard M4, but features a water injection system to enhance system cooling. According to the company engineers, “The water is injected into the plenums of the intake manifold as a fine spray. When the water vaporizes, the intake air cools significantly. As a result, the final compression temperature in the combustion chamber – and therefore the engine’s tendency to 'knock' – is reduced, enabling the turbocharged engine to use higher boost pressure and earlier injection timing."

Despite its outstanding track ability, it is still fully road-legal. This is racing technology for the road in the truest sense.”
