Do you want the Toyota e-Palette BEV to enter PH?

MANILA: Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) has started selling the e-Palette BEV.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the Toyota e-Palette?

The electrified vehicle is powered by an AC synchronous motor mated to a 72.82-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery.
  • How much is the Toyota e-Palette?

In Japan, the vehicle is being retailed for around starts at JPY 29 million (around P11.233 million).
  • According to the Japanese automaker,  it will introduce the e-Palette in Toyota Arena Tokyo, its surrounding areas as well as Toyota Woven City, where it will be used for transportation services as well as a mobile store for various goods, among others.

In a statement, Toyota said that the vehicle can be used for various mobility services. If offered in the Philippines, the vehicle could go hand in hand with the existing Toyota Tamaraw — all while promoting sustainability mobility.

Creating a sense of openness for the Toyota e-Palette are its cavernous interior and large windows. The cabin also allows customization to support more applications.

Assuring easy ingress and egress are the low floor and wide sliding doors with matching height-adjustment functions and electric ramp. Optional equipment such as a one-touch fastening device for wheelchairs is also available.

Allowing the vehicle to move is an AC synchronous motor that can dish out:

    • Maximum output: 201 horsepower
    • Peak torque: 266 Newton-meters

Mated to a 72.82-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, the Toyota e-Palette can reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour and cruising range of around 250 kilometers.

The power supply can be juiced up in less than an hour via rapid charging (DC 90 kW) or 12 hours via the standard option (AC 6 kW).

Further, the Toyota e-Palette can support an automated driving system that conforms to Level 2 automated driving specifications. Toyota will continue to implement improved functions with the aim of launching vehicles equipped with Level 4 automated driving systems to the market during fiscal year 2027.

It also has the capability to support automated driving as it is equipped with an automated driving system developed by various companies (Automated Driving Kit; automated driving control hardware and software, sensors like cameras and LiDAR) that are compatible with Toyota's vehicle control interface.

Reducing the steering input for the driver and easing driving burden is the Steer-by-Wire System. It also adopted a new steering wheel to create an advanced cockpit design.

Lastly, the Toyota e-Palette is slapped with a digital signage inside and outside that can display information to match usage as well as a cabin monitoring system that checks door surroundings.

The sole concern we have with the Toyota e-Palette is its price tag. In its home country, the pricing of the Toyota e-Palette starts at JPY 29 million (around P11.233 million).

However, should businesses be able to bite the bullet, they will surely have a future-forward vehicle that promotes sustainable mobility.

It can be recalled that a few years back, Toyota e-Palette operations have been suspended in the Athletes' Village for the Tokyo Paralympic Games after colliding with a visually impaired pedestrian in August.
