E-racer from SG set to race vs. the world in GR Supra GT Cup final
MANILA: A. Aleef, the winner of the first Toyota Motor Asia Pacific GR Supra GT Cup Asia, is going to represent the Asian region in the global GR Supra GT Cup 2020 on December 18.
A total of 24 players will compete in the e-motorsport race which will be conducted together with the FIA Gran Turismo Championship 2020 Series World Final. The contestants will be using the GR Supra in the "Gran Turismo Sport" video game.
In the GR Supra GT Cup Asia last October, Singapore's representative Aleef bested 14 other racers from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, and India. Aleef won the first place in the first two races and third in the last race. He received an overall score of 36 which was followed by Taj Aiman from Malaysia with 33 points and Sirigaya from Thailand with 25 points.
Getting ready for his approaching international competition, Aleef said, “As the first GR Supra GT Cup Asia champion representing the region in the global final, I want to make all Singaporeans and Asians proud, so I have been practicing hard and honing my racing skills. My experience competing in the many national and regional rounds against other fast and skillful drivers has strengthened my performance. I look forward to bringing my best game and enjoying the global final with e-motorsports fans and gamers watching the race from around the world.”
The first race of the global final will be at the Fuji Speedway where the 24 participants will be divided in two groups with 12 members each. The top six racers that will stand out from each group will move to the final round where they will be racing at the 7-km Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Leading championship races like Formula One and the World Endurance Championship are usually held in this circuit which is consist of 19 turns through the hilly terrain of the Ardennes. The maximum speed that can be produced in this circuit is 330kph (205mph).
Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) is expecting to bring together racing fans virtually as this contributes to the company’s ideas in developing and improving its vehicle models.
This one-day event will be live-streamed worldwide on December 18, 9 p.m. Manila time. It can be watched here.
