Ford PH rolls out updated Ranger, Everest

MANILA: Ford Philippines has officially launched the latest iterations of the Everest mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) and Ranger pickup truck for the local market.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What engine does the new Ford Ranger Wildtrak use?

The updated Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Wildtrak X are powered by a 3.0-liter single-turbo V6 diesel engine.
  • What engine powers the Ford Everest?

    The Everest Active 4x2, Sport+ 4x2, and Wildtrak 4x4 use a 2.0-liter EcoBlue turbodiesel engine. The top-spec Platinum 4x4 gets a 3.0-liter single-turbo V6 diesel.
  • The pair of the brand’s highly popular nameplates received a major revamp to their powertrain options, slight adjustments to their trim lineups, new interior amenities, and redesigned exteriors.

Let’s check out these two rides in detail.

    Ford Ranger

The new Ford Ranger is spearheaded by the Wildtrak X, the pickup truck’s sporty-yet-tough variant.

For engines, the updated Ranger has ditched the old 2.0-liter bi-turbo in favor of a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine. This applies to both the Wildtrak 4x4 and the Wildtrak X 4x4.

The updated Ranger Raptor still sports a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline EcoBoost engine. All variants, including the Raptor, also retain the familiar 10-speed automatic gearbox.

At maximum, the new single-turbo 3.0-liter V6 on the Wildtrak X and Wildtrak can dish out 246 horsepower (hp) and 600 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. The Ford Ranger Raptor V6, meanwhile, can still deliver up to 391 hp and 583 Nm of torque.

As a whole, the Raptor carried over most of the previous versions’ mechanical bits, but the new Ranger Wildtrak X now boasts Bilstein shock absorbers for its double wishbone front and leaf spring rear suspension systems. Stopping power for all variants is provided by front and rear disc brakes.

Of course, the Ford Ranger Raptor still comes with live-valve internal-bypass shock absorbers, selectable exhaust modes, and front- and rear-locking differentials. The Wildtrak X and Wildtrak still come with locking differentials, but only for the rear.

    Other stories:

On the outside, the updated Ranger comes fitted with LED lighting fixtures, adaptive front lighting, zone lighting, power-folding/adjustable side mirrors, a bedliner, the Wildtrak Sport Hoop, roof rails, an easy-lift tailgate, and metal underbody protection. Exclusive to the Wildtrak X is a “Ranger” hood lettering and black composite off-road-rated side steps.

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak X and Ranger Raptor were equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels shod in all-terrain tires. On the other hand, the Wildtrak gets 18-inch wheels.

Also present for the Wildtrak X and Ranger Raptor is a Bang & Olufsen 10-piece speaker set.

In terms of digital gauges, the Wildtrak X and Ranger Raptor get a 12.4-inch unit, whereas the Wildtrak has an 8-inch digital instrument cluster.

Other noteworthy interior amenities available to the updated Ford Ranger include leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dial-type 4x4 mode selector, wireless smartphone charging pad, ambient lighting, smart keyless entry, and an electronic parking brake - among others.

Safety-wise, the updated Ford Ranger was equipped with the following advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS):

    • Adaptive cruise control
    • Automatic high beams
    • Adjustable speed limiter
    • Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection
    • Forward collision warning
    • Evasive steer assist
    • Lane departure warning/lane keeping aid

Pricing for the updated Ford Ranger is set at P2.469 million for the entry-level Wildtrak 4x4, P2.609 million for the Wildtrak X, and P2.879 million for the Ranger Raptor.

Available options for the updated Ford Ranger include Absolute Black, Arctic White, Meteor Grey, and Ignite Orange.

    Ford Everest

The updated Ford Everest has four variants with two diesel-powered engine options. These are the 2.0-liter EcoBlue turbodiesel, which was upgraded with a timing chain. This is available for the Everest Wildtrak 4x4, Sport+ 4x2, and the Active 4x2. At most, this 2.0-liter mill produces 168 hp and 405 Nm of torque.

Topping the updated Everest trim lineup is the new Platinum 4x4, the only variant that comes with the new 3.0-liter V6 single-turbo diesel engine. It has the same output numbers as the one found on the Ford Ranger Wildtrak X and Wildtrak.

Unique to the Everest Platinum 4x4 is a rear locking differential. All Everest trims also come with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

For the Ford Everest Platinum 4x4 variant, its exterior gets 21-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, zone lighting, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding/adjustable side mirrors with heating, a power tailgate, a panoramic moonroof, and roof rails - among others.

Size-wise, the SUV model is 4,914 mm long, 1,923 mm wide, and 1,842 mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,900 mm and a ground clearance of 227 mm.

Inside, the updated Ford Everest is largely the same feature set as the updated Ranger. It does, however, get an electronically folding third row. Moreover, both front seats have power adjustability and ventilation.

In terms of price, the top-spec Ford Everest Platinum 4x4 retails for P2.849 million. The Everest Wildtrak 4x4, on the other hand, is priced at P2.669 million, the Sport+ 4x2 at P2.219 million, and the Active 4x2 at P1.949 million.
