Ford Troller TX4 takes design cues from the Jeep Wrangler

MANILA: If you find the Jeep Wrangler too boxy to your liking, then Ford has a brand-new off-roading vehicle that took some design language from the Wrangler but softens it a bit with gentle curves to minimize the boxy edges. The Ford Troller TX4 is a more badass version of the Troller and is perched on top of the T4. It’s a 2-door, ranger-based 4WD that measures 4,095 mm in length and sits on a 2,585 mm wheelbase. For comparison, a 2-door Jeep Wrangler is 4,334 mm long on a 2,459 mm wheelbase.

The TX4 comes fitted with a snorkel air intake, side steps, steel bumpers on both front and rear, roof rack with adjustable crossbars, winch, and Pirelli Scorpion MTR 245/70R17 tires. It also comes standard with auxiliary Hella LED lights with IP67K protection—making it waterproof for up to one meter which works well when waddling through rivers. The rugged model comes in an exclusive navy-blue accent on the roof, front grille, and other front end components, but the rest of the body is available in three colours: Trancoso Brown, Maragogi Green, and Frosted Silver.

Inside the TX4 is an old fashion looking dashboard filled with knobs and circular AC vents (talk about going retro!). The 6.75-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is mounted on the centre just below the AC. Orange trims on the AC vents, door panels, and seat stitching breaks the monochromatic black tone. Other notable features are the dual-zone climate control, split-fold rear seats, a dual-panel glass roof, and power windows. Under the hood, speculation abounds that the new Ford mid-size SUV will be powered by a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine along with a hybrid variant.

Ford's Brazilian division spearheaded the development of the Troller TX4 and is taking the vehicle for a spin all over the country for performance validation before it hits the showroom.
