Ford PH welcomes 2020 Ranger FX4 - Here’s what you need to know

The all-new 2020 Ford Ranger FX4 was finally launched last week and it is definitely sleeker than ever.

Known as a daunting and muscular midrange pickup truck, the ‘T6’ Ford Ranger FX4 has stayed out of the local car scene for quite some time, and now that it’s back in the Ford PH’s roster, it literally came with an abundance of swag and style.

Just like what we have expected, the model that was introduced locally was almost similar to the one that was launched in Thailand last November. The Ford Ranger FX4 is available on both manual and transmission trims with a total of five colors to choose from, namely Arctic White, True Red, Meteor Grey, Aluminum Metallic, and Absolute Black.

What does FX4 mean?

This was literally a wordplay of the term ‘4X4’ for the premium 4x4 or Off-Road Package of Ford. The ‘F’ literally means Ford so it can be read as ‘Ford by Four’. FX4 became the name of the model’s badge since 2002. The FX4 tag is emblazoned on the car’s side.

Engine, Transmission, and Chassis

The FX4 is equipped with a 2198 cc, 2.2L four-cylinder 16 Valve DOHC TDCi Diesel Engine that fires up to 160 horsepower at 3200 rpm and 385 Nm torque at 1600-2500 rpm. This rear-wheel-drive and five-door pickup shifts gears via 6-speed manual and/or automatic transmission.

What is a TDCi engine?

A Turbocharged Diesel Common rail injection engine uses a turbocharger and common rail injection system to deliver the fuel right into the combustion chamber and sprays pressurized fuel as per engine load for better performance but with fewer gas emissions.

Ford Ranger FX4 Exterior

Gone are the two bars carrying the Blue Oval emblem and was replaced by a more stylish and daunting blacked-out grille embellished with a honeycomb design on both sides. The black bumper and blacked-out taillights are also something to notice as it oozes with more angst.

It is equipped with 18-inch black alloy wheels with Ford logo center caps and a metal tubular sports bar at the back to boost hauling and cargo capacity. You can also find some ‘FX4’ decals and badging around the car.

The 2020 Ford Ranger FX4 features projector headlamps and halogen front fog lamps with black power-folding exterior mirrors with side turn indicators.

Ford Ranger FX4 Interior

Pop the doors open and you will be greeted with a dashing and very elegant black interior with some accents of red stitching that made the inside of the FX4 astonishing. The dash topper, steering wheel, shift boot, door panels, and the seats are all clad in leather with red stitching.

The standard interior features include the Power Windows, Electrochromic Rear-View Mirror, and the Sunvisors with Driver and Passenger Illuminated Vanity Mirrors. It is also equipped with a single-zone manual air conditioning system.

You can also notice that pick-up’s cabin dons faux carbon-fiber trim with floor mats in the front row. 

The driver's seat and the passenger seat are built to be manually adjusted in six and four ways, respectively while the rear bench seats have a center armrest and fold-up function.

Ford Ranger FX4 Technology

The 2020 Ranger FX4 comes with an 8-inch color touchscreen display that is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It can also be connected to your phone’s Bluetooth and has two USB ports. Your daily drives can always run smoothly through joyful rides while being accompanied by your favorite music playing through the car’s six-piece speaker.

There are also two auxiliary 12-volt power outlets where you can charge your phone or laptop while on the go and the steering wheel has controls over the audio, informatics, and cruising.

Alongside the epic comeback of the iconic Ford Ranger FX4, Ford Philippines also revealed the upgraded versions of the locally available models Ranger XLS, XLT, Wildtrak, and Raptor.

Sure thing Ford Philippines did not disappoint the Blue Oval Filipino fans with their latest offering but moving forward, including more technological advancement and driver assistance features.
