Ford’s love with recalls continues with 2017 Explorer

MANILA: Ford recently announced a recall regarding the 2020 model of the Explorer SUV. The American automobile manufacturer was forced to recall SUV because of a faulty seat that may eject during the event of a crash. Before that, Ford had to call back 1.2 million units of the Explorer because of a faulty rear suspension toe links which carry a risk of fracturing following a prolonged and rough usage. As if the previous two recalls weren't enough, another issue has come to the fore spraying salt on the automaker's wounds.

Affected by the latest recalls is the 2017 model of the Ford Explorer, which are said to have seat frames with sharp edges. Moreover, the sharp edges can injure the occupants while they try to reach for the seat controls. Around 31 cases of injuries due to the sharp edges have already been reported, said Ford.

Speaking of the major markets that are affected by the recall, the USA sits at the top with a total of 311,907 units affected. With 23,380 Ford Explorers hit by the recall, Canada holds the second-largest number of SUVs that have been called back. Lastly, Mexico also makes it to the list with 3,045 affected units and takes the tally to 338,332 units. Ford has reported that all of the affected units of the 2017 Explorer were manufactured from 13 Feb 2016 to 25 Oct 2017 at the automaker's Chicago Assembly Plant in the USA.

Customers are advised to not reach for the seat controls until the issue is resolved for minimising the risk of an injury. The automaker will cover the exposed edges with flocked tape in order to prevent further injuries in the future.
