Honda will make the e:HEV offerings more efficient and will receive more technological features.Honda Motor Company Limited Director, President, and Global Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Toshihiro Mibe made the statement in a press briefing, after announcing that the company will realign its automobile electrification strategy.
With the implementation of the new scheme, the Japanese automotive marque is aiming to increase total automobile sales volume to more than the current level of 3.6 million vehicles in 2030 — with an HEV sales target of 2.2 million units at the core.
The aforementioned electrification approach will be carried out in the following directions:
- Bolster business foundation through the reassessment of the powertrain portfolio
- Boost competitiveness of electrified models with the core focus on application of intelligent technologies
Focus on HEV
Given that the current demand for hybrid models is high, Honda looks at positioning hybrid-mill-propelled offerings as a priority to play a key role during the transition period toward the popularization of electric vehicles.
With that, e:HEV — the brand’s original two-motor hybrid system — will be further advanced by making it more efficient and can cover more roads due to an expanded range.
Further, Honda plans to trim down the cost of the next-generation hybrid system by more than 50 percent compared to those installed to models introduced in 2018, and by more than 30 percent versus the ones introduced in 2023 to current models.
More driver assistive tech
Aside from that, Honda Global would enhance technological offerings by further developing its original next-generation advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
By leveraging on the recognition and behavior planning technologies collected through Honda’s automated driving development, Honda’s assistive technologies are being improved that would result in safe and comfortable driving, which can be utilized even in urban environments.
Currently, next-generation ADAS are being adopted more on high-end EV and plug-in hybrid models due to power supply constraints and the need for SoC cooling.
