How about a neo-retro Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

MANILA: No matter how much we crave for modern, aesthetically pleasing, and muscular cars, there’s always a thirst deep down inside our hearts that can only be quenched by a retro sedan, or coupe. However, with the automobile industry evolving at a rapid pace,

the design languages of the newer cars seem to be heading towards a single direction. Addressing the elephant in the room now, we have some renders of a Mercedes-Benz which is a blend of both the modern and the retro worlds.

Based on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, or shall we say the ever so popular W114/W115, the newly designed Stroke 8 looks nothing but stunning. Sketched by the car designer David Obendorfer, the Icon E Concept boasts an exterior that has elements from both the present and the past. That’s not all though, as the interior on the sedan is also bolstered with a blend of the two realms.

On the outside, a pair of vertically stacked headlamps flank a large rectangular chrome grille. While this grille is in a shape that is reminiscent of the original unit on W114, its outline and the horizontal slats, on the other hand, are as modern as a Mercedes of the present. The wheels have also been given a retro look thanks to the body color matching wheel covers which bring back the memories from the 70s. An upright roofline, flat window line, and the rectangular taillamps further enhance this delicious mixture.

Move inside the Icon E Concept, and you are greeted with a short top dashboard along with a chrome-ringed steering wheel, both of which bring back the retro feel. The infotainment system and the instrument cluster,

however, being LCD units are fully modern. A column shifter is another element inside the revisited W114 that brings some modernity to the sedan. It’s quite certain that Mercedes-Benz won’t be producing such a model, however, we would love the manufacturer to use classic and iconic elements from the past on its new vehicles, won’t we?
